Chapter 38

Jack's pov.

"Jack, man where are you looking at?" a male voice kept asking

"What?" I blabbed, without paying any attention

"Don't you hear? I asked you what had got your attention"

"My attention?"

"yeah, you know something? drop it"

"Yeah" I whispered. I heard a slight hum and then no one spoke, at least not to me. Not that they were saying anything special

I knew that Bruce and most of our friends were probably angry at me right now but a certain table had got my attention. I narrowed my eyes while looking over at Geo and Alice. Their eyes were glued to the door. They looked restless a few minutes after they were seated. Arthur hadn't shown up yet. It was a bit odd. I was worried too

"Jack, jeez. We are talking to you" a high pitched voice slightly yelled at me. I still felt like they were talking right next to my ear

I rolled my eyes in annoyance and turned around looking around at the others. A few girls and boys were sitting across from me while Bruce and Gabe were next to me. They were all looking me straight in the eyes. I sighed before turning around, eyeing Arthur's friends again. I could hear the others whispering about me, that I was a bit annoyed these days. No one knows how much I wanted to punch the boys' perfect faces, except Bruce and Gabe of course. But I didn't let them get me. I have changed, so if they don't like my knew self then they can freely leave and go find someone else so that they can joke around with

"Jack, are you okay?" Gabe suddenly whispered to my ear. He had come closer to me now

"I'm fine Gabe" I replied, looking towards the door with anticipation

"It doesn't seem like it"

"I'm just a bit worried," I sighed. That was probably my hundredth sigh that day

"About what?" he seemed like he really wanted to learn the answer. Only the sound of his voice betrayed him

"For Arthur" I said and pointed to the others' table

"Why?"

"He hasn't shown up yet and he is never late. His friends are worried and so am I" I said while turning and looking at him. He turned toward their table and looked too. I kept staring at him for a few seconds until I saw his confused gaze. I didn't get to turn as he get to spoke first

"They are up and I think they will leave"

I immediately turned around, making all the kids look at me with confusion as I probably made a sound. Gabe was right. With their worried gazes, they were heading towards the door. I stood up without thinking about it much and started walking to them. I wasn't paying attention to anyone else. I didn't know if they were looking at me or if anyone else followed me. But I think that both of those happened. They got outside and I got out too. They seemed to notice me, as Geo turned around confused and looked at me. He patted Alice on her shoulder and turned too, forming the same expression when she saw me

"What are you doing here?"

"Arthur," I said quickly. Not because I was embarrassed but because I wanted to go and search for him. I had already looked down at the hallway, trying to see if I could see him

"What?" they both asked confused at the same time

"He is late. I'm worried you are worried. So let's go" I was about to start walking when Alice stopped me
