15) Ray Of Hope

"So, what do you think, Hobi? Do you think you can help him?" Taehyung asked his friend who looked serious. Taehyung and Jungkook were sitting in Hobi's cabin right now after finishing the scan. Hobi looked at the reports in front of him and then back at them before sighing.

"I won't sugarcoat things. But from what I'm seeing in these reports, there really isn't anything that I can do to help him, at least not medically." Jungkook felt his world collapse with Hobi's statement and he clutched his chair tightly. He could feel tears well up in his eyes and he looked down to not let them see his tears.

Taehyung too was in a similar state. Even though he had known that the chances of Jungkook getting his memories back were very slim, he was still devastated by the news. He looked at Jungkook who had his head down and immediately held his hand. He could only imagine what the younger must be going through.

"Guys, don't be so glum. I never said that he won't get his memories back ever. All I said was that there is nothing I could do medically." Hobi said, seeing the sad faces in front of him.

Jungkook looked up hearing that and his hold on Taehyung's hand tightened automatically like a reflex.

"What does it mean doctor?" Jungkook asked, afraid to raise his hopes once again.

"Do you see this spot, right here?" Hobi asked, showing them the picture on his laptop screen. Both Taehyung and Jungkook nodded their heads in response.

"This right here is your temporal lobe and your thalamus which controls your emotions and memories and do you see these whilte spots on them? That is the damaged tissue or lesions as you say in medical terms. This kind of damage is caused by a blunt force trauma to your temporal lobe. So while your outside injury has healed nicely, inside it's a whole different case. In layman's terms, you rearranged your closet and now you can't find your favourite shirt. That is not to say you won't find that shirt ever, you may find it today or next week or it might take a bit longer for you to find that shirt, but you'll definitely find it. The point is I can't put a definite timeline on when your memories will return or what will trigger your memories to return." Hobi explained.

Jungkook didn't know if he felt better after that explanation or even more hopeless. The only thing that kept him from breaking down was Taehyung's hands that was reassuring him that he wasn't alone in this and he has help and for now he chose to take it one step at a time and believe in whatever the fate has in store for him.

Taehyung thanked Hobi and left the cabin with Jungkook following him. He took Jungkook to the cafeteria since it was already past lunch time. He made him sit on the chair and went to order something for the both of them. He was waiting for their order to be ready when someone he least wanted to see decided to interrupt.

"Dr. Kim, what a coincidence. We both decided to have lunch at the same time. Do you mind if I join you? Actually I don't like eating alone. I would've come earlier at lunch time, but I had to assist in a surgery. But I'm happy that I ran into you. Now I won't have to eat alone." Taehyung looked at the woman and didn't know what to feel about her. He was rusty, but not dumb to not realize when someone is coming onto him and no matter how rude he behaves with her, she still comes back like nothing ever happened. He doesn't know whether to be impressed by her determination or be weirded out.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you Ms. Ahn, but you'll have to eat alone, because I have company." he said, receiving his order from the counter and turning around to leave.

"Oh that's ok, Infact, I don't mind making new friends." she said, making Taehyung look at her in disbelief.

"But my company would definitely mind, Ms. Ahn. Now if you'd excuse me." Taehyung said, walking away as fast as he could. The woman just doesn't seem to take a hint. SoHee looked at Taehyung's retreating back with burning eyes.
