But I won't be coming home this time..." Summer Rose weakly spoke, whilst leaning against a tree in pain. She had been injured by a giant Grimm which separated her from Qrow by knocking him out and forcing Summer to lead it away from him and follow her instead before she too was hit and was now about to be finished by the Grimm.

{Earlier that day in 3rd POV}

They were meant to only keep out the Grimm from entering the village and attacking the citizens whilst other Huntsmen and Huntresses escorted them into Bullheads for evacuation. Summer and Qrow may not have been a full team, being only half with Taiyang taking care of Yang and Ruby at home and Raven disappearing off from Tai after Yang was born.

Even then, Summer and Qrow were already effective enough with years of working together in Beacon and missions after graduating from the academy which helped the two become an effective team with one another.

However, this was different. The Grimm had pulled away from trying to invade the village and actually started waiting away from the village which both Qrow and Summer thought was odd and made them put their guard up for anything unusual.

Then, a Manticore, much larger than ordinary, being 45-meters tall when stood on its hindlegs, had started rushing towards the village. Left with no choice but to prevent it from crashing into the village and giving the Grimm easier access to invading the village and attacking the civilians, Qrow and Summer alerted the other Hunters of their new objective before they went to lead it out into a forest. This would give themselves ways to hide from the Manticore and let them escape back to the village after enough time.
