My breath comes in short gasps, the sound of it mixing with the pounding of my heart in my ears. It's as if I'm in a race against myself, pushing my body to its limits in an effort to outrun my fears and worries.
As I run further and further away from my house, I can feel the weight of my problems slowly lifting from my shoulders, the cool air of the night grazing against my burning cheeks.
I don't stop until I feel like my throat is on fire, the air unsuccessfully trying to push its way to my lungs. My limbs are trembling from the effort, probably also because of the lack of food it had today. So with a much slower pace, I now make my way towards a place I know wouldn't even think twice to let me in.
When I arrive in front of the golden gates that surround the house, I don't hesitate to ring the bell.
"Who is it ?" The speaker crackles, as the voice of the familiar housemaid, resonates in the silent night. I have to clear my throat and approach my mouth to the speaker, before saying my name.
"It's Liliana, can you let me in Rose ? Please..."
Not even a second later, the gates of the mansion open up to me, so I step inside the large ancient property that belongs to the Raymond family.
As I walk towards the mansion, I hear the gates close up to enable the entry of anyone else. The dim lights of the old castle slowly get brighter and brighter as I approach and it takes me a moment to acknowledge the figure that is leaning against the brick wall, half hidden in the darkness. A sense of calm fills me up when I see him, which makes all my tense muscles relax slightly.
I can't see the expression that lingers on his face due to the darkness, but what I do see is him holding his arm out, a hoodie gripped in his hand. Despite the warmth that floats in the air tonight, I suddenly become aware of my own shivering.
I sense his heavy gaze on me when I don't make a move to grab it, and I hear him let out a sigh telling me that he is losing his patience.
"Just take it, Lils. You are shivering. " His voice is sharp, but I refuse to be helped and wave my hand in denial. "Or I'll make you wear it."
It's all I need to hear before I snatch the hoodie out of his hand and pull it above my head to cover the little top I was wearing. He nods his head in approval and starts walking towards the cracked open door of his house.
I walk behind him as we cross the empty dining hall to head toward the living room.
"You should have called I would have picked you up." He grits out as he gives me a quick glance over his shoulder. He hates to see me walking alone. Especially at night and after a fight with my parents.
"I know you would Lee. But I can walk on my own you know ?" I mumble and hear him chuckle quietly at my statement.
"I know you can Lils."
