I take the glass of whiskey that Jace hands over to me before he pours himself a glass.
"You'll need it," He nods towards the alcohol. I watch him sit down in the living room, silence taking over for a second which makes me to restart my pacing around the living room.
"I know what it's like to wait for an answer that might either destroy you completely or be the best news of your life. Either way there is nothing you can do and you simply have to wait." Jace explains, while slowly turning the whiskey in his glass.
And for a second I feel empathy for him too, because frankly I wish this feeling to nobody. Except to those who go after the people I love.
"Magnolia?" I ask him and slowly Jace nods, but I watch as his expression falters.
"I couldn't save her in time and I thought I lost her." He speaks with his eyes unfocused in front of him. I swallow hard before taking a large sip out of the glass. "But Leo was there. He will get her well too. I know it, Rhys."
At that time, Magnolia enters the living room, giving me a sad smile before moving to her husband who already awaits her with open arms.
I can't help but look away at their happiness. I am truly glad she made it out but if my princess doesn't, I won't be able to look at such a happiness ever again. Storm is my everything and I refuse to move on.
"I put Riley to bed, but that stubborn little girl doesn't want to sleep before you give her a good night kiss." Magnolia says, earning a chuckle from her husband who immediately stands up to do as asked.
I finish my glass and drop it back on the bar. I need to get out of my head. "Why were you already keeping an eye on Liliana?" I ask, looking up to cross the green eyes of Magnolia, who only soften under my cold gaze.
"You know what we do Rhys, right?" She questions.
"Yes Mags. I already helped you to take down some human traffickers at Golden."
"Good. I wasn't sure if you remembered." She smiles, slowly mentioning my head, and I can't help the small smile that grows on my face. But it quickly disappears again.
"The rings and those people are getting out of hand. They could target anybody, at any time. We can never be too careful."
"You thought that she could be taken?" I exclaim and she affirms my rhetorical question with a small yes.
"I told you. You can never be too careful." She continues with eyes brows furrowed. "They like to target power and enemies. Both of which Liam Raymond and his entire family have. So you can guess. Heck they would even go for my little Riley, those bastards. They would take our entire worlds apart if they could." She murmurs that last part under her breath.
"Liam asked you to look out for Liliana, because he didn't want anything to happen to her." I state, and swallow the bile that rises in my throat.
"In fact he is in the middle of a mission with his father in New York right now." Jace adds behind me as enters the room, additional information now to my reach.
