God, this is so fucking stupid I think to myself as I smile widely and nod at the woman in front of me. Wrench's arm is wrapped across my waist as I nod.
"So you'll both have twenty four hours to live here, then we can sort out whether you'd like to stay permanently or not." She sweetly says. I must leave it too long as Wrench responds for me.
"Absolutely, me and my wife can't wait to see what our forever home will be like!"
I almost roll my eyes at his cheery tone of voice. His elbow nudges into my ribs and I replaced my smile, "Yes, what my husband said."
The woman grins and stands there waiting for us to go inside. Ever with the theatrics Wrench scoops me up bridal style and carries me through the doorway.
"Get your hand off my ass before I kick you in the balls." I whisper to Wrench as he kicks the door closed behind him.
"Want me to drop you? Besides you secretly love my hand on your sweet little a-" He begins, but I wriggle so he's forced to put me down.
"That's not nice, wife." He teases. I sigh as I regret this entire mission.
In order for us to hack into the smart homes and expose Blume and Haum, we need to download the footage and proof that they're spying. To do that, we have to buy enough time, hence why me and Wrench are spending twenty four hours together in this Hell home.
Wrench wastes no time getting to work, sitting at the kitchen counter as he types away. I'm not even sure why I'm here.
"So, what's for dinner?" He asks after a few minutes. I scoff but search through the cupboards anyway, finding pasta and some sauces.
I begin cooking as Wrench types away. It almost feels nice. Half an hour later I dish up the food as we sit opposite each other at the counter. The giant window to the kitchen overlooks San Francisco, and I watch as the sun begins to set.
"This is fucking delicious!" Wrench mumbles around a mouthful of pasta, his blue eyes wide as he practically inhales the food.
"Thanks, I mean it took a lot of effort, you know, putting pasta in some water and waiting for it to cook." I shrug, smiling as he flips me off.
"The download should be done in the morning, so we only get an overnight stay." He tells me, and I nod.
After we've eaten, I put the dishes in the dishwasher and follow Wrench to the living room, where there's a huge sofa and massive TV.
Wrench asks the house to turn on the fireplace and the fake fire roars to life. Next he commands the house to close the curtains as he jumps on the sofa, wiggling his feet as he kicks off his shoes. He pats the seat next to him and I sigh, but sit down anyway.
"What should we watch?" He asks.
I shrug. "The Crow from 1994?" I suggest, since it's one of my favourite movies. He nods and asks the house to play the movie, which it does.
At first we both sit side by side, but eventually I feel my body starting to lean more and more towards Wrench. At some point my head rests on his shoulder as his arm drapes around me. After that I don't remember.
"Come on sleeping beauty, you'll get cold there." A voice mumbles. Familiar arms scoop me up as I'm carried upstairs, and placed in the comfiest bed I've ever felt.
Thick fluffy blankets cover me and a hand brushes my hair away from my face. "Sleep tight." Wrench murmurs, but I grab his hand as my eyes try to open.
"Stay." I whisper, and Wrench stays still for a moment before coming to the other side of the bed and slipping under the covers.
I roll over and rest my head on his chest, my tired brain not processing the fact I'm being weird.
"Shit, this is better than I imagined." He murmurs, pulling me closer and holding me close to him. His hand rubs my back as I snuggle into his chest.
"Am I being weird?" I ask into the darkness.
"No, I like having you close to me " He whispers back, "in fact I'm enjoying this a lot more than I want to admit."
"Me too." I agree, letting out a small yawn.
"Goodnight wife."
"Goodnjght husband."
