I sat at the table of the fancy restaurant, vaguely listening to my date talk about his work at Nudle and how well his job pays. Don't get me wrong, I love hearing about people's lives but this dude just keeps talking about himself, and even worse, how great Blume is.

I nod politely and smile, but under the table my hands fist the ridiculous dress I thought would look cute, my anger bubbling like a volcano that's about to erupt.

I can't take much more of this agonising date, so I excuse myself to go to the bathroom, my date doesn't even realise I've said anything until I'm up and halfway across the restaurant.

"Yeah, sure babe, take all the time you need" he shouts so everyone can hear.

I look behind me to make sure he's not looking before I duck out of the fire exit and into the warm evening night. Taking a deep breath I decide to pull out my phone and scroll through my contacts, trying to find someone to rant about this stupid idea to. My thumb scrolls until a name pops up that makes my heart flutter, do I call him?

The phone dials twice before a voice picks up, laughter all ready filling his voice; "It's only been an hour and a half, so I'm guessing the date isn't going too well" Marcus says on the other side of the phone, I hear typing so I presume he's working on something.

"This dude is honestly making me tear my hair out! Who talks about themselves for a whole hour?!" I exclaim over the phone, my voice exasperated.

A deep chuckle fills my ears and I immediately feel my bad mood dissipate,  "Want me to come be your knight in shining armour?" he asks, I contemplate going back inside to be polite, a part of me feeling bad for my date, but the logical part of my brain tells me that it would have only been a one night thing anyway.

"Are you sure you don't mind? I just can't tolerate rich assholes like him, I don't even know why I said yes to him asking me out." I mutter.

"Y/N, would I ever say 'no' to you?" Marcus says, I hear a car door close, "Are you already in the car?" I remark to him, not believing what I'm hearing.

"Nope, I'm already nearby, you should see me on your left in about 30 seconds" Marcus hesitantly tells me. I laugh and sigh, "Of course you are...Were you spying on me?" I ask him, getting a little defensive that he might have been.

"What! No, I just wanted to check this guy out, you know, make sure he isn't some weirdo who wants to make a outfit of your skin or anything" Marcus' voices raises a few octaves higher.

"Firstly ew, second, thank you" I say.

I see Marcus come around the corner just like he said he would so I end the call and put my phone into my dress pocket.

"Wow, were you trying to kill me? You look stunning girl" Marcus says, looking me up and down.

I laugh and nudge him with my elbow before following him back to his car parked around the corner, "Thanks for this, honestly I thought this dating thing would be a good idea, but I guess it's maybe not..." I end with a long sigh, pinching my eyes closed.

"Maybe you haven't been asked out by the right guy yet" Marcus states, looking at me intensely.

I look up at him and raise my eyebrows in question, "Are you asking me out? Your tone suggests so" I wonder.

"Wasn't it obvious? Okay let's try it this way, Y/N will you go on a not-so-shitty date with me right now?" Marcus smiles and asks.

My eyes widen as I laugh, "Are you serious?"

"Yeah, c'mon it will me fun!" He laughs as he gets into the car, I follow his lead and sit in the passenger seat, "Okay hacker boy, let's see if you can outdo rich dude" I smile, blushing a little since I can hardly believe this is happening.

As Marcus drives past the restaurant, I look out of the window and spy rich dude sitting with a new girl, I roll my eyes and turn to look at Marcus, he smiles back at me and we laugh together.
