I wriggle on the couch as I hold my book up to my face, a blanket is draped over me despite the fact I'm fairly warm. It's more for comfort than anything.
The others work around the hackerspace as I sit in the corner near the stairs, avoiding everything and everyone, trying to immerse myself into a world of fiction rather than the dull reality of real life.
Okay, so I'm in a pretty shit mood at the moment...
"What're you doing my fancy little bookworm?" Wrench drawls behind me. Usually I'd have a sarcastic retort or nice response, but today I don't feel like playing around with him.
"I'm reading, or I was until you interrupted me." I snap, closing the book with a snap. Wrench steps back and holds his hands up. "Whoa, no need to Hulk out on me."
I sigh and get up, deciding to go out and have a few hours of solitude where I can simmer on my own. However Wrench has other plans, following me upstairs as I punch in the code to the door.
"What's up? You're usually...you know." Wrench says, using his hands to point his mouth into a smile.
I cross my arms with my book under them, "Well today I'm just not feeling it." I reply with a sarcastic smile. Wrench tilts his head and I roll my eyes just as the door opens.
I begin to walk out of the store but once again the annoying fucker follows me. I stop and turn around, "Can you just fuck off?" I angrily say.
I expect Wrench to argue back, to snap or get defensive. Instead he doubles over in laughter, slapping his leg. I feel a small blush rise to my cheeks, suddenly self conscious about everything.
"I'm-sorry-you-just-remind-me-of-a
-angry-hamster!" He says between laughing. I stare daggers at him until I feel my lips tilt up into a smile.
"Shut up you dipshit, you're the one who dresses like you're clinging onto your emo days." I weakly retort, but wince at the stupid reaction. Ugh.
"Look, I get you're in a bad mood, I get them too, we can either go have a drink and talk it our, or," he says with a wink, "I can give you the Wrench special?"
I sigh and look up to the sky, before gesturing at him to lead the way.
Half an hour later we're stood in his garage, I'm wearing overalls and safety goggles as Wrench finishes placing all the breakables around me.
He hands me a sledgehammer with a bow, "Your weapon m'lady."
I bite back a smile and take it from him. He takes a step back and uses his phone to put on some heavy metal music just as I begin whacking the shit out of TVs, toasters and the occasional random appliance.
"Get it girl!" Wrench cheers. I look behind me panting to see Wrench leaning back in a chair, one hand tucked behind his head as the other fist bumps the air.
I laugh and turn back around to finish the job.
Sometime after I remove the goggles, and wipe the sweat from my forehead. Wrench strolls up to me, "You aren't going to murder me now, right?" He teases, I hand him the hammer and he places it on the desk.
"I'm sorry I was a bitch." I apologise, grabbing a nearby brush to begin sweeping up the mess.
Wrench takes it from me and shrugs, "Sometimes all you need is a little destruction to balance out the creativity."
I raise my eyebrows, "Okay Yoda, calm down." I laugh as I take the brush back and we get to work cleaning the place up.
