It's freezing this time at night at the hackerspace, everyone's gone home apart from Josh who is still click clacking away on his laptop, working on a code for us to download some information from a company.
I shiver as I design a new weapon idea on my tablet, pulling my feet up from the cold floor, I sit cross legged on a chair in front of the 3D printer, just adjusting my design a little.
I move my hair over my ears to unsuccessfully give them some protection. You'd think the DedSec hideout would be warm from all the computers on all the time, and usually it is...in the summer. But winter here is so cold, and it doesn't help that almost everything isn't being used, so heating is to a minimum.
I shiver again, this time my teeth begin to chatter and I grit them to prevent any obvious sound. I look over to Josh who is sitting perfectly content.
"Hey Josh?" I ask. I get a "hmm"
"Are you cold?" I say whilst gritting my teeth, it comes out more aggressive than I mean.
"Nope, if anything I'd say I'm pretty warm, why'd you ask-" Josh mumbles since it's pretty late, before turning to get a look at me. His eyes widen before he shoots up from his desk and comes over to me.
"You look freezing, literally, do you have a jacket or something?" He asks, looking my attire up and down judgingly. Okay fine, so jeans and just a T-shirt weren't exactly the best choices for a day in the basement...
"N-nope" I chatter, putting on a fake smile, before pressing the 'print' button on my tablet. The 3D printer whirrs into motion, a low hum fills the silence.
I hear and unzipping noise and turn my head, and see Josh taking off this beloved green hoodie and handing it to me.
"No, you keep it, otherwise we'll both freeze" I say politely, holding out a hand.
Josh just shoves it more into my face, a frown beginning to form.
I hesitantly take the hoodie and put it over my T-shirt, the warmth of Josh's body instantly making me feel better, and strangely comforted.
"Thank you" I smile at him. I expect him to go back to his desk, and he does, but instead of sitting down he grabs his laptop and chair and comes to sit beside me, so we're leg to leg.
"It looks good on you. Am I too close?" He asks, I shake my head, eyes wide due to the fact that he never sits this close to anyone plus he just told me his clothes look good on me. What does that mean.
Before I get time to ponder that last thought, he asks "What are you working on?", nodding to the printer.
"Oh that? Just a new weapon idea" I say, getting awkward about sharing my possibly brilliant idea.
"Tell me about it" Josh says, looking down at his laptop and typing once again.
"Okay, well, erm, it's like a pen, except it's hopefully going to fire tranquilisers or tracking chips, or other things I haven't though of yet" I nervously say, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"That sounds pretty good, easy to conceal and way lighter to carry around than the usual" Josh smiles, I can't help but to smile back.
"Are you warming up yet?" Josh asks after a few minutes of comfortable silence.
"Yeah, thanks, did you want your hoodie back?" I lie.
Josh's eyes slowly slide to mine, before he raises his eyebrows. Damn that's cute.
"You're not warm yet, are you" He asks in a tone that tells me he's thinking about something.
"Well...no" I laugh. "It's freaking freezing in here!" I joke.
"We could go somewhere warmer if you like, the printer won't be done for a few hours and I can do my work on my phone" He suggests.
"Are you sure you don't mind? I mean you could stay here, but I'd love the company" I admit, laughing to myself.
"I'd love to come with you" Josh says quickly, as if he's thought about it before.
"Okay, luckily I brought a coat" I say, than kick myself for being so stupid, I even laugh.
"I'm so stupid, I could've literally put on my coat to get warm" I bring my hands to my face and mumble, feeling silly.
"I know you brought a coat, it's bright yellow and sitting right over there" Josh deadpans, pointing to the sofa to our right.
"Then why did you give me your hoodie?" I ask in bewilderment
"I-I wanted to help, plus Marcus once told me that girls love wearing guys' hoodies" Josh says nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Oh, yeah I do, plus you smell lovely" I say, cringing at myself after hearing back what I just said.
Luckily Josh smiles before grabbing my coat after I unzip his hoodie and give it back to him, and I lead the way to somewhere warmer.
