"Is that so?"
"Yes really, you're not what I expected. Kiara Romano, you're one of the richest women in Italy and married—well was married to one of the most powerful men."
"My marriage doesn't define me."
"Of course not, my apologies if I offended you. If you don't mind me asking, why'd you run that night?"
"It was for the best. It was alot going on, I just needed to get away. I could've gotten killed. Shit, I'm lucky to have survived."
"Yeah you and a few others. I guess that life wasn't as luxurious as it seemed from the outside looking in."
"You're on their payroll. You know very well that luxury is only part of being a Romano."
"Fair point but after that shootout, all the suspicions and rumors about the Romano family being involved in the mafia was more less confirmed to the public. What else could explain those events? I'm surprised y'all could have remained so powerful and still have people fooled into believing that all that money was from legitimate businesses."
"People believe what they want to believe but given all that you know, you're in over your head if you think I'll be going back to Italy."
"Kiara-
"Look you have no idea what it was like being with Dario. The guy was a maniac and so is the rest of his family."
"I'm sorry but my job is dependent on bringing you home to your family. Coming to think of it, aren't you a mother? I was hardly ever around the estate but I vaguely remember Don Romano having a son. Did he pass in that accident?"
"No! What the hell—my son was not in the vehicle with us. He was at home with his grandmother." My blood came to a boil at the assumption.
"Apologies, well you clearly didn't leave with him. I assume that means he is home in Italy. Aren't you looking forward to seeing him again?"
"What is it with asking about my son?" I retorted defensively.
"I am simply trying to understand you-
"What, so you can judge me? Hold your judgement. The only two people who can do that are God and the devil himself."
"I don't believe the devil has that role under his belt."
"I was referring to my late husband."
"Oh, okay well look Mrs.Romano-
"It's Kiara, just Kiara or you can call me Ms.Dawnes if you wish to be formal."
"Kiara, whether you wish to believe it or not, Italy is the best place for you to be right now. No matter how bad the idea sounds, if you wish to stay alive, the Romano mafia are your best chance. You will be protected." I know there's a possibility that what he's saying is the truth but in the same breath, he gets paid only IF he brings me to them so this could be all about him getting his money. To go back to Italy is one thing but to go back to that place with those people is a risk I'm not sure that I am willing to take. The last thing I want is to be trapped in that life again. I understand the benefits it comes with including being able to see my son again but I'm just not certain about this.
"I need more time to decide what I want to do."
"Just keep in mind, that every second we stay here increases the chances of being discovered. Your time is limited and Marcellous is already well aware  that I had eyes on you as reported so he is definitely expecting you back soon."

"You ready for this?"
"Not in the slightest yet here we are so what difference does it make? I'm pretty certain you don't care anyway, after-all this is what you will be compensated for right? Bringing the lost wife of Don Romano back huh?"
"It's for the best."
"So you keep saying Damon."
As we approached the familiar gate, my blood ran cold as I watched the guards walk up to the vehicle. All these protocols, men with guns, surveillance and excessive security is not something that I have missed. Once they saw me in the vehicle, recognition hit them like a wave as they quickly allowed us to pass through. We pulled up to the stairs and there came Ayana running towards the car. I'm nowhere close to prepared for this. Damon opened my door but just as I stepped out of it Ayana attacked me. "Oh God, I can't believe you're here! Mi sei mancato così tanto" ( I missed you so much).
"H-hey Ayana." This kind of felt awkward after so long. I wasn't sure what to say.
"Come on, Marcel is on his way."
"And um Matteo?" I questioned nervously.
"Oh my God, yes of course. He is upstairs, I'll take you to him."
When we got to his room I swear I felt my heart drop. My little Matteo was no longer a baby. He was walking so well now like a little man.
"Matteo, someone is here to see you." Ayana gained his attention. He ran towards her with his toys in hand nearly tripping over his own feet. It was cute but I didn't miss how he by-passed me and honestly that hurt.
"Look who's here Teo, its mommy." She said pointing towards me.
"I-it's okay Ayana, it has been a long while since he last saw me. He was still so small when-
"Kiara I'm sure he remembers you, probably just needs a reminder of-
"It's fine, I actually need a shower so I'm going to my room. You can let me know when Marcel is back." I excused myself from the room quick before my tears began falling. I should have prepared myself better for this. I knew it wouldn't be easy. I knew there was a high possibility that my son wouldn't remember me but confirming it really breaks my heart.
