"Quale preferisce, signora Romano?" (Which one do you prefer, Mrs. Romano?)
"Uno? Li prendo tutti." (One? I'll take them all.)
"Well okay big steppa, who can talk to you?" Jessica teased me. She is the first genuine friend that I have made who has no connections to the Romano. I met her a while back at a club one night. While Dario was in a business meeting, Jessica and I were getting acquainted on the dance floor.
About a year later I ran into her while I was accompanying Camilla at the mall. She recognized me and sparked a casual conversation instantly. We exchanged numbers but only began speaking often recently when my second pregnancy was announced online. 'Mrs.Kiara Romano gracing Dario Romano with a second bundle of joy' I remember the titled article she sent me along with a congratulatory message. We never actually went out together except today but we kept in touch. Jessica is a popular actress who married an Italian and moved here a few years ago.
Christmas is coming soon so I figured why not treat myself with a new car or few especially since I'm driving myself around more than before now. Dario has become quite lenient with me these days. He doesn't particularly like it but I appreciate the effort he is putting in to make me feel more comfortable, free and actually happy. Yes, I said it. For the first time in years, I am at my happiest.
I have two amazing little boys who mean everything and more to me. My marriage is not perfect but lately my husband is becoming a different version of himself which I can do more than tolerate but appreciate. I found a way to become more independent, make my own money and escape Dario's thumb and shadow. It's a thrilling feeling. I'm excited to see what the future has in store for me.
"What's the next move once we leave here though?"
"Dario is waiting for me to return home. Initially we were suppose to have dinner together as a family and we apparently have an end of year activity to discuss. Turns out he forgot that we had a party to attend tonight so the dinner is postponed."
"What you mean like end of year activity, like a party?"
"I'm getting that impression. I've never known him to be throwing those at all so I'm curious to see where that idea stemmed from and how it will turn out." I admitted
"As long as my invite is secure."
"You know it will be, without a doubt."
