Dario POV
"So who's in charge here?" Matteo asked.
"Ricardo Ricci is the manager but running a family is like running a business so today, you'll be understudying Ricardo."
"This is mom's club right?"
"For now." I nodded.
"What do you mean for now?"
"Romano Bar & Lounge, it's the only entertainment business we have in Rome. However, since it became public knowledge that we are the Italian mafia we've been considering the closure of some of our legal establishments. After all, they served as coverups initially. They make us good money but at the end of the day, the Romano mafia is just that, a mafia. Our priority is the drug business so this place may just be one of those we shut down."
"Does mom know that?"
"I discuss everything with your mother Matteo, she is well aware." It was partially a lie. I was still yet to update her on my discovery. An outside child, it was quite the revelation. Turns out that the woman—whose name I still have no interest in remembering, told the truth. I had a DNA paternity test taken as soon as I tracked the boy. Funny thing is, I didn't even need the freaking test. He is a splitting image of me. I couldn't believe it myself. Matteo, my pride and joy, my heir, my firstborn turns out to not be my first born son after all. Damién Romano, a seventeen year old motherless boy had my blood running through his veins. How she even managed to keep this a secret considering the child signs our surname is a remarkable mystery. I had him placed in an orphanage unable to be adopted until I can figure out what I truly wish to do with him. The fact that I am his father, I have already disclosed to him.
"Why don't you ever bring Massimo with us to these boring places? Why doesn't he have to learn these things?"
"Massimo's time is soon approaching but first I need to make sure that you understand what it means to be a leader. Massimo as your brother will learn to be your closest supporter. There is no greater support system than family but he cannot support you, if you cannot lead effectively."
"How long will I have to lead for?"
"Until your dying breath my son or until you find a woman who will serve as your equal and bare you a son of your own to take the reigns."
"So is mom your equal?"I nodded despite the fact that he should have already known the answer. "And what if I have a daughter or no kids at all. I don't care for children."
"I don't expect you to at your age. When the time comes, it has to be a son though. There has never been a woman in charge but we'll dive deeper into that conversation later. If you choose not to have children son, then that's where Massimo steps in and the cycle continues."
"So what if I'm a bad leader then?"
"That won't be the case, I'll make sure of it."
