"Enjoying the view?"
"It's beautiful. Everything always seems that way when the sea is involved."
"Why do you love the sea so much?"
"It's vast, beautiful, holds so many secrets and it always brought a sense of calmness to me. It makes me forget my troubles." I don't know why I was being so open with Dario. It made me feel vulnerable but in this moment I didn't particularly care. How could he use it against me anyway? He can't take the sea away from me.
He didn't say a thing in response. Dario just stood in silence near me observing all behind the horizon. It was strange but I somehow enjoyed it. His presence didn't bother me. In fact I almost forgot he stood there until he said we should get back inside. We were attending a birthday celebration for one of his associates.
We returned inside where people were eating and talking amongst themselves. Marcellous sat at the table with us along with their two cousins Killian and Kairah. They're pretty reserved. Kairah seems like a pleasant woman but she doesn't usually speak unless spoken to. Although she still is the outspoken one between her and her brother. Killian gives off that nonchalant impression everytime I see him.
I kind of wish Camilla was here so at least I wouldn't be the odd one at this table. These people are all connected to the mafia and I can't exactly engage in their particular conversations nor would I want to anyway.
"Excuse me, I'm going to find the restroom." Dario gave me a questionable stare but I only gave me a small reassuring smile. Surely he can't be expecting me to try anything stupid.
The restroom was exquisite but I suppose that was to be expected. The door swung open and in walked Anna.
"You've got to be joking."
"Kiara, I didn't really think it was appropriate to catch up infront of Ayana and Camilla."
"We have nothing to catch up on Anna."
"We sure as hell do. You were all over the news. People thought you were dead then you suddenly show up after being missing for so long. What the hell happened?"
"It has nothing to do with you."
"Wow, why so hostile all of a sudden?"
"Why are you here?" I countered with a question of my own.
"I'm accompanying my partner."
"Your partner? Anna none of these men here have anything good to offer you trust me. You should run while you still can."
"Kiara it almost sounds like you're speaking from experience. Surely there can't be trouble in paradise. You're married to one of the elite men of society. Dario was known as of the most eligible bachelors and your relationship is paraded all over the blogs and magazines like the perfect couple."
