Kiara
"I swear you show that dog more affection than Dario."
"I always preferred my dogs on four legs." I said giggling as he licked my face.
"Funny. How are you feeling though..after yunno?"
"I'm doing okay."
"Kiara are you sure that you're okay?"
"Yes Camilla seriously I'm fine."
"I just want to be certain—I mean things got a little intense yesterday. I feel like I should be walking on egg shells around you right now."
"I was just upset that's all. Kiana and I aren't on good terms I get that but still, this is a betrayal I never anticipated. I thought she would always have my back even on bad terms. Mouthing my secrets to Dario knowing the kind of man he is. That could have gone a whole lot worse than it did. Thank God Dario is apparently turning a new leaf or I would've had fresh bruises right now. What got me even more annoyed was her lack of empathy. She didn't apologize nor did she even seem to regret it. Like she really could not care less. I'm reminded how alone I truly am in this place but I'm over it. It is what it is honestly."
"That sucks it does, but I'm sure you guys will get through this. Besides, you're not alone. You really are like a sister to me Kiara. Kiana may have a history with you, that I could never compete with but I will always be a friend to you no matter what. I value our friendship deeply and truly felt the loss in your absence."
"Thank you Camilla, I do appreciate that you said that and feel that way."
"You know I would have suggested a night at the club or even a shopping spree to lighten the mood but I highly doubt my brother will permit either."
"Well-
"Aww look at that. He is such a happy kid." Camilla cooed as Matteo came running towards us out of nowhere.
"Little man where are you coming from?" I chuckled lightly as I picked him off the floor.
"Apologies Mrs.Romano I was trying to change him but he-
"Well that explains the nudity." Camilla joked referring to how naked my son is at the moment. Just then Marcel walked through the front door.
"Fratello, se continui a fare quel broncio finirai per invecchiare più velocemente di Dario."
(Brother, if you keep scowling you will end up aging faster than Dario.) Unfortunately for Camilla, Marcel didn't even bother to entertain her little joke. In fact he didn't even spare us a glance, it's like he didn't even notice us.
Lorenzo followed quickly behind him seemingly pissed and that's when I truly knew something was wrong. Dario was in his office though so I knew he was safe. They probably lost another shipment although I don't see how that will get such a reaction out of Lorenzo. God, maybe they lost more men. It isn't my place to question the details of what happened, well correction it is actually. As his wife I should be allowed to ask questions without being heavily involved in mafia business. Dario simply forbids it which is enough reason for me to leave the business matters to the men but curiosity always gets the best of me. Luckily it seemed to have gotten the best of Camilla as well so I was not alone as she followed them into Dario's office.
"Camilla, Kiara what is the matter?" He spoke immediately as we entered.
"That is what we're here to find out. What is happening brother?"
"It's not your concern, leave us." He dismissed her instantly.
"I beg to differ, I am a Romano just as much as you and Marcellous are. You do remember that don't you?" She challenged him.
"And I am the one in charge when it comes to the business and anything that has to do with keeping the legacy and safety of this family alive, you should do your best to keep that at the forefront of your mind little sister."
"Dovrebbero sentirlo anche loro, fratello. Dovrebbero saperlo, soprattutto Kiara." Marcel addressed his brother.
(They should hear it too, brother. They should know it, especially Kiara.) what the hell was he talking about. Lorenzo is yet to utter a word.
"What the hell are you talking about? What happened Dario, tell me!"
"Kiara."
"Tell me. I need to know." I demanded. He held eye contact with me for a firm moment until he released a stressed sigh as though I was getting on his nerves.. nothing unordinary.
"We have reason to believe that someone took Kiana. She did not return home last night after she left here."
"Took her? As in..abducted her?" This cannot be happening.
"Oh my God." Camilla gasped beside me.
"It's well into the afternoon Dario, why am I now hearing about this?"I wasn't sure how to react. Our last encounter was terrible. The guilt would eat me alive if anything happened to her.
"Because we just found out. Lorenzo was handling business for me all night as instructed so only upon arriving home a few hours ago he realized that Kiana never got home. The vehicle she drove was tracked and found in a ditch by a few of our men. There were signs of struggle, or at least that she had been hurt due to the blood splatters in the vehicle. That is all we know for now."
"That's it!? Why the hell aren't you out there searching for her? Who could've taken her? Was it Mario?! Is he behind this?"
"If we knew that for certain we wouldn't be sitting around having this discussion now would we?"
"Why do you seem so nonchalant about it? Why aren't you upset? Show some fucking concern at least for Lorenzo!" I was pissed but I'm not sure at what..maybe at myself. Camilla grabbed my hand and pulled me in for a hug.
"Calmati, la troveranno. Sta bene."
(Calm down, they will find her. She is fine.) She doesn't know that for sure. Hell, we don't know anything. Kiana could be dead by now for all we know. What will I do then? What do I do now? I feel so helpless. I want to do something. I want to help her but how. The silence in the room was deadly as Camilla held me and rubbed my back soothingly.
"Lasciateci" My husband's cold voice cut through the silence.
(Leave us)
"Fratello non intendeva...
(Brother she did not mean-)
"I said leave us." He cut her off. Camilla hesitantly let go of me and left the room with Lorenzo and Marcel following. I stood in place with my back facing Dario not bothering to give him my undivided attention. Not wanting to let him see the unshed tears that I was fighting. Not wanting him to see how vulnerable I felt in this moment. Time stretched on for probably a few minutes until I heard Dario's chair being pushed back. I remained unmoving until I felt his presence mere inches behind me and goosebumps coated my skin. I was on edge unaware of his mood and his intensions. It caught me completely by surprise when he spun me around and pulled me into his chest. Dario was...hugging me.
"Prometto che la troveremo viva, altrimenti Dio non potrà salvare il responsabile da me."
(I promise that we will find her alive, otherwise God cannot save the person responsible, from me.) my breath caught in my throat by his words.
"Since when do you care for Kiana? Weren't you just threatening her?"
"I know how much she means to you and Matteo, I will not allow her to be harmed Kiara." I wasn't sure what to say to that but I found myself crying. I mean I literally burst into tears. Dario held me even tighter and just allowed me to cry into his chest.
"T- thank you Dario." I whispered once I seized my tears. I'm not sure why I said it. What exactly was I thanking him for, I didn't know so I'm sure he wasn't aware either but he didn't comment nor question me on it. If only Dario was anything like this when I first met him, maybe there would have actually been a chance for us. If we met under different circumstances and he hadn't completely ruined me. Maybe, in a different world, I would have actually fell in love with him.
