POEM #37: IF I COULD

"If I Could"

If I could turn back time, I would save myself from breaking apart

I would stop myself from falling no matter how many walls I use to lock me in place

Or maybe staples will do along with adhesive and glue

I would stop myself, leaving stop signs everywhere I look

I would shower the clues in my face like I'm stupid or a fool

I would not open my heart and I will lock all of the doors

When you knock, I will never say "Hi", I will stay silent

I will not try to walk the path heading to you

I will not surrender my heart, I will not risk any chances

I will not gamble with destiny, I know I'll never win

If I never enter the conversation, I won't need to say goodbye

If I never fell for you, I would not need to mend my heart

If I never love you, I won't need to hate you this way

We won't need to end anything, we won't need to apologize

The silence between us will be peaceful instead of it being loud

And I will not wish to forget anything, I won't need to forgive

There won't be a night sky that looms over me

There won't be a thought of you that never ends

If I could do it a second time, I promise it won't be you.
