I added some whip cream on each plate of pancakes for Theo and Nikki. The sun wasn't up yet but we sure were.

"Thank you Diya!" Nicole clapped her hands in excitement.

"yeah, thanks baby. You really shouldn't have stood up for so long to make all this" Theo smiled.

He leaned in to kiss me on the cheek but whispered in my ear when Nicole wasn't listening.

"Save that whip cream for later" he murmured.

I blushed and playfully shoved his shoulder. The things this man did to me...

"So, Nikki. I've been meaning to talk to you about school" Theo stated authoritatively.

"Aw man.. why can't I just enjoy my pancakes?" Nicole yawned. I giggled at her comment, leaning on the counter across from them.

"No no baby- I was actually going to tell you that you're free to stay home for a bit. I know it was hard to deal with what happened here the other night..."

Before Theo could continue, Nicole shook her head vigorously.

"no, I'd rather be at school Father..it's ok" she continued stuffing a fork full of syrup drenched pancakes in her mouth- chewing obnoxiously loud.

"okay. You're always welcome to change your mind princess"

She nodded as she chewed. Nikki was noticeably too sleepy to continue the conversation.

"Why don't I tuck you back in bed when you're done with those pancakes honey?" I offered.

"Will I be in bed alone ?"

"Of course not sweetie" I assured. I smiled at her as I glanced at a silent Theo. He ate as he stared down at his plate. I knew he was hurting at the thought of Nicole being traumatized.

"Ken did sleep over in the upstairs guest room. Why don't we tuck you in with your uncle ? We might be up talking for a bit so we don't want to keep you up." I explained.

"But... I want to sleep with you guys tonight." Nikki pushed her empty plate across the counter to tell us she was done.

"We'll come get you when we're done baby" Theo concluded his promise by kissing her sweetly on her forehead. He swooped her up and headed to the bedroom with her. I smiled at their cute dynamic.

I slowly carried the dishes to the sink so I could rinse them off. I hopped a bit in slight pain.

My phone beeped once I was done.
