Diya's pov
Theo's discharge papers explained that he had some sort of graze wound. It seemed painful but he would be fine after it healed.
I let him put his arm over my shoulder as we walked up to the front door. Luckily, my foot was practically fully healed. Just our luck that he was the one limping now.
"ouch baby, walk slower goddamn"
I giggled a bit because he was kinda being dramatic.
"I'm walking slower than a snail my love"
"Mm yeah yeah-you know baby, I been meaning to tell you how fucking hot you look. Why don't we get in a quicky while Ken has Nik?"
"Uhh I don't think your doctors would like us to reopen your wounds. I would love for you to rip off this pretty Dress but we have to wait-
"-besides after they drop off Joseline. They'll be home any minute..."
"Nah, I gave Ken some money and told him to take her out and about so we could handle my parents and shit"
I slapped Theo's shoulder playfully while we continued to slowly walk him to the door.
"UHM? OW?"
"You could've told me first of all and second, I did not hit you hard, crybaby"
We approached the front door slowly but surely so I reached for my key to unlock it. Two sophisticated strangers stood by the sofas and quickly glanced at us. They seemed to resemble Theo but I was too stunned to say anything.
"Are you fucking kidding me? You do NOT come into my house when I'm not here" Theo immediately stopped hunching and began pointing his finger accusingly at who I assumed to be his parents.
"Honey, I'm your mother- if I want to be concerned about my child then I am allowed to come inside"
"Well if you would've just given us a key we wouldn't have had to hire someone to force entry" his dad added.
His parents gave me no looks or acknowledgement. It was like I was watching a tv show because everyone was pretending I wasn't there.
"oh hello I'm uh Diya" I extended a hand and a warm smile.
His mother analyzed me like I was a peasant begging her for a quarter. She turned her attention back to Theo.
"Darling you look terrible. If you would've just took that nice vineyard by us then you wouldn't look so impoverished"
Theo scoffed as I watched him try to stay calm. He was walking through the kitchen to pour himself a glass of wine while his mom strutted behind him. I waddled behind him like a tiny little penguin. They were making me feel so small.
Theo's dad oddly stayed silent while his mom continued to poke at Theo for different things. His dad was drinking a beer as he sat on the sofa in silence.
"I don't CARE! This is why I want nothing to do with this sick and entitled family. We are not better than anyone and I'm a fucking adult who deserves privacy" Theo announced loudly which snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Language! we are a FAMILY and I'm more family than any whore you bring home will EVER be"
"Keep speaking about her like that and watch how your phone will never receive a message from me again"
I awkwardly sat still. I just looked down in shame that I was the topic of the argument. It's not like they were paying me mind but it felt like eavesdropping.
"Look, today is a family visit because I was worried about you my beautiful baby boy. I'm not here to fight. I just want to check on you and spend time with you"
Theo sipped his drink making me realize that he couldn't mix it with his medicine.
"my love, I don't know if you can mix drinking with your antibiotics." I interrupted softly.
"I don't fucking care Diya, I just won't take the meds tonight. I need this shit way more"
I nodded to him right before his mom whipped around to face me. I usually would put up a fight about something like medicine but he seemed to be overwhelmed as it was.
"Why don't you go make yourself useful and clean this awfully dusty house. I would never let my son or husband lay their heads in such an atrocious environment-"
"You will not speak to her that way. She's MY girl and she is not anyone's maid- I will see to it that you guys have a hotel if you don't already own half of the state's four seasons. Until then, I want you gone. You may contact me when you have a fucking grip on reality." Theo basically pushed his mom out to the living room, encouraging her to go.
"And take your drunk of a husband too."
Theo's mom gave him him a blank stare before smirking. "I will see you at tomorrow's family ties picnic. Everyone will be there. Dress sharp, the invitation is on your counter"
Theo's dad tumbled away from his drinking session, speaking to himself as he followed Theo's mom out the door.
