Diya's pov
I turned around slowly to back away from the dark trail I was heading towards. I bumped into someone making me scream in horror."Hello to you too" the stranger cackled while lighting up his cigarette calmly. The lighter illuminated his face showing that he was young. He seemed around my age. By his attire, I could tell he came from the same event as me or somewhere similar. The text spooked me but he didn't appear to be harmful. He seemed as nonchalant as they come.
"I'm sorry- I seem to startle easily these days" I apologized, embarrassed.
"That's alright. What's your name?"
"Diya. And you?"
"I'm Elias. Are you okay?"
"Oh uhm yes. why do you ask?" I stutter.
Elias blows the smoke from his lips with a smirk as he leans on a tree.
"For starters, you screeched when you saw me.. you're on a dark sidewalk alone and you don't have a cigarette in your hand so why be on this path? and to be honest, you seem frightened....Is it me that's scaring you so bad?"
I shook my head, forgetting he couldn't see me.
"Observant. But no it's definitely not you. It's uhm honestly complicated... Could I have a cig?"
Elias extended one- followed by his lighter. He stepped closer to my adrenaline filled body, flicking his lighter on so you could see us staring at each other intimately in the dim light. He lit the stick between my lips.It felt...wrong. Not to mention, I'm getting mysterious texts and suddenly alone with a stranger. It felt like a horror movie chick move.
I instantly coughed like a 6th grader trying a joint for the first time. Elias laughed a bit when he heard me struggle.
I've never smoked but I would try just about anything to calm my anxiety at this point.
"that shit is terrible" I laughed at myself, still recovering from my cigarette induced cough.
Before we could continue our conversation- I noticed that my phone was blowing up. I could see that Theo was outside walking around with a phone up to his ear. Fuck.
"I got to go- nice meeting you!" I shouted a bit as I scurried off to Theo. He stood with no cane and his arms crossed as he watched me approach him.
"where's your cane ba-"
"Who gives a fuck? Where were you?"
I rolled my eyes at his tone. It was constantly a fight these days.
"Here. Where else?"
Theo cackled scarily before pulling his phone out.
"Keep her at your place for tonight. Mhm. So we're good?...Good"
He hung up while he looked down at me with a cold stare."Wanna try again?"
