Diya's pov
Athello's notifications went off the whole ride to the cafe. I was trying to ignore them but he seemed very eager to pick up every time his phone rang.
We stepped out the car, thanking the driver who opened the door for us.
"I ordered our drinks online so they should be ready. I got chai and picked out a random fruity boba drink for you" I informed Theo.
"Fruity?"
I rolled my eyes at his immaturity.
"Yes. One sip and you'll have balls in your mouth- very fruity" I responded.
Theo laughed while he opened the door for us to go inside. He grabbed our drinks then sat with me in a hidden booth at the back of the cafe.
He held my hand across the table which made me feel safe.
"I know this is a dark question but. Do you ever think about your ex wife?"
"How could I not...We had Nicole together. My only child. Ya know?"
I nodded, taking a sip of my iced chai.
"Do you... miss her?" I questioned insecurely.
I knew it was a bit childish to ponder about especially on a date that was supposed to be romantic but I couldn't shake my thoughts.
Sometimes I wondered if Theo and I would even be together if she was alive. Or would I be pursuing my ballet dream of owning my own studio? Would we ever cross paths at all?
Theo gave my hand a loving squeeze as if he could read my thoughts.
"I miss her as a person. As a mother. Even as a... friend. I loved her but I didn't see us staying together. We were convenient for each other but you... you were made for me."
I smiled at his kind words.
"Okay lover boy- try the damn boba"
We laughed in unison then I watched him drink a bit of his boba.
"Do you like it?" I tilted my head to the side, trying to read his neutral reaction. His chiseled features still blew me away when I stared.
"It's actually pretty good"
I smirked "okay fruitcake"
Theo tossed his straw wrapper at me playfully.
Time went by as we sat together laughing about work. We spoke about how he wishes his family was different and I opened up about my own family. They were dysfunctional and I loved keeping my distance as much as possible. His phone kept ringing but he actually ignored it for once. We flirted through the lighthearted gaps and even ordered more desserts.
"That damn drink fucked me up. Excuse me" Theo announced eagerly before scurrying to the restroom.
His phone lit up on the table once he left. He seemed to have left it.
This was an opportunity presenting itself on my lap.
I know what you're thinking... do NOT touch that phone Diya. Just trust him! What would he have to hide if he just left his phone anyway- right?
What good comes out of lurking? You'll just end up hurt, mad or fighting with him...again.
"Fuck it"
I mumbled, snatching his phone from the opposite side of the table. I scrolled through the preview of messages- not seeing anything but business, old friends, family or important strangers.
But FUCKING then- I saw her name.
HER. NAME.
R'Becca was the name in his phone. We both know exactly who that is.
I thought about how I shouldn't do it but I knew that I was going to regardless.
I scrolled anxiously to read the preview.
When are you going to tell her? I can't wait anymore...- R'Becca
My heart sank.
Honestly, I'd love to have you for myself... I would be such an easier girlfriend to deal with!! Lol-R'Becca
