"Wednesday, stop! You can't just ignore me forever!" Xavier called in the middle of the hallway full of students.

Wednesday had been going out of her way to stay away from Xavier for a little less than a week. She was positively determined to make sure he couldn't get anywhere near her cellular device.

If he got near it, he'd inevitably put other peoples' numbers in it and she would be doomed to throw it in the lake. If she had to throw it in the lake, it would be an absolute waste of money on Xavier's part.

Once Wednesday believed she was alone, she walked to the library to look for books on stalkers. She'd gotten several more messages and photos from the unknown watcher in the past week and was determined to decipher them.

"Boo!" Xavier popped his head in between the covers of two books she had been looking at on the shelf.

"Your failed attempts of amusement are wasting my time. Don't you have a class right now?" Wednesday asked.

The boy walked around the shelf to the side the girl stood on. She was much shorter than he was, and he found it absolutely adorable. "Why are you looking at books on stalkers? I know you like those kinda things... but seriously? Who are you planning on stalking now?"

Wednesday focused back on the books, trying to dismiss Xavier's question. "I stalk my parents constantly. Who are you, to say I'm not finding a new method of doing it?"

Xavier rolled his eyes with a smile. "Okay, fair... maybe for a random person. But I know you well enough to tell when you're lying."

The raven flashed the artist a quick glare. "If you knew me so well, you would understand how irritable I get when someone distracts me from a task."

The boy nodded. "Yeah, yeah. You're all anti-hero and stuff. Seriously though, who are you planning on stalking?"

The girl found his comment unamusing. "I don't intend on stalking anyone. It's necessary for research regarding... my new novel."

Xavier raised an eyebrow. "You just gave yourself away. What's really going on?"

Wednesday suddenly became interested in another book a few aisles away. "It's none of your concern, Xavier. You should head to class. You're probably missing vital information for a midterm."

Xavier followed her and forced her to face him, narrowing his eyes, and towering over the girl. "Are you lying to me?"

His eyes were shining. He meant it as a joke, but the girl gave in.

"I suppose I could use your assistance. It is your fault that I'm aware of the situation," Wednesday muttered.

"My fault?!" Xavier exclaimed.

"You gifted me with that cursed phone. That's how they started sending threats and photos," Wednesday admitted.

Xavier's eyes widened in fear as his voice slowly grew louder. "Who?! Who's sending you threats?!"

"My stalker, of course. You shouldn't be so surprised. I pity your concern for my well-being." Wednesday told him.

Xavier rubbed his temple. "God, this is not good. This is really not good. That means it's a kid from here or... or someone else snuck into Nevermore."

Wednesday stared. "Yes, exactly. I see you understand."

Xavier let out a shaky sigh. "How long have they been texting you?"

Wednesday glanced away, not wanting to witness the boy's reaction. "I was sent the first message and couple of photos the day you gave me the phone."

"What?! Why didn't you tell me sooner?! My dad could've had the message tracked over break!" Xavier grouched in an angry voice.

"I have only seen a few of the messages I have been sent. I don't respond to them. It's not that big of a deal, Xavier. I can cause more harm than a cursed pilgrim. Your worries are unnecessary," Wednesday said, attempting to reassured her friend it was all okay.

Xavier shook his head in disbelief. "I dunno what we're gonna do, Wednesday. Shit. I'm so sorry I gave you that goddamn phone."

Wednesday looked up at the boy's face. "The stalker isn't your fault, Xavier. From the photos they have sent me, I am very well convinced that they were around long before you displayed that random act of... kindness.
I may seem ungrateful, but I am not. I suppose I never told you thank you. So, I will now. Thank you for the gift, and stop worrying about the repercussions. No good deed goes unpunished."

Xavier melted at the girl's strangely somewhat kind words of affirmation. "Then— uhh— you're welcome, I guess."

He looked at the ground for a moment, hands in his pockets, sheepishly blushing. "What would you say to the Weathervane on Saturday? You could actually explain the entirety of this stalker thing to me, ya know? Just to get a better feel for what we're dealing with."

Wednesday eyed her friend suspiciously. "You have my hands tied, Xavier. I will see you Saturday."

A playful smirk spread across his lips. "And, y'know, maybe don't ignore me in class when I try speaking to you," he murmured before she walked away.

Wednesday turned around. "That is a fair deal. Do not push your luck, Xavier Thorpe."

Xavier smiled back. He couldn't believe Wednesday had just agreed to go get coffee with him.

Was it a date? He didn't rightfully know.

He just knew that Wednesday had said yes, and that was all that mattered to him.

As long as Wednesday was okay, life would always be a little easier.
