Wednesday's eyes widened in fear as Xavier leaned in to kiss her.

Could this be it? Their first real kiss? Their real beginning?

No matter how much the raven's heart urged to be able to fall in head first, her mind had other priorities.

Instead of kissing the boy back, Wednesday clung to him even higher and buried her head into his shoulder. "You are not winning this game, Xavier."

Xavier's jaw dropped as he opened his eyes and stared at the dark-haired girl clinging to him. "We'll see about that, Addams."

Surprisingly, his voice displayed no indication of pain. Wednesday slowly looked up at the boy and shot a death-curdling glare at him.

"Hey! What did I do wrong?!" Xavier asked sarcastically.

As soon as he met her eyes again, she flung herself backward out of his arms onto the cold, moist forest dirt and her eyes darted to the picnic basket. "We should eat now."

Xavier quickly plopped down on the ground next to her with a suspicious smile. "You can't just ignore my question forever, you know."

"You did not ask a question," Wednesday replied firmly.

Xavier slyly inched closer to her side as they ate together. "You know," he said after swallowing a bite of his sandwich, "living with the sheriff isn't all that bad. I don't get why you trust Tyler though."

"He is the only way we stay hidden from the ones that want us dead," Wednesday replied. "I have no choice but to trust him or be murdered in broad daylight. The choice I made is self-explanatory."

Xavier sighed and shrugged. "I guess so. Do you trust him more than you trust me?"

"Why does my answer to your question eat away at your anxiety-thrilled intestines?" asked Wednesday.

Xavier rolled his eyes. "Pffft, I'm not anxious. I was just asking a question."

"A devious question that, if I answered, would eventually lead to you attempting to get the answer to your previous question," Wednesday replied.

Xavier's eyes lit up as he braggingly waved a guilting finger at the small girl sitting next to him. "Aha! You admitted that I asked you that question!"

"I did not admit anything except the anxiety that you seem to overwhelm me with," Wednesday replied.

Xavier scooted even closer, tilting his head, as he asked her, "Oh? How does it overwhelm you? You're like the most unoverwhelmable person I've ever met."

Wednesday's eyes widened in fear once more as her heart fluttered inside her chest. Her eyes locked with Xavier's and this time, she couldn't resist his devious smirk.

Xavier leaned down towards her face and her eyes met his as she slowly but surely leaned upwards toward his.

He slowly cupped her cheek with his hand and smiled devilishly as their lips were about to touch.

"What the fuck?!" exclaimed a different voice before the two lovers' lips could touch.

Tyler Galpin stood in awe and glory behind Wednesday Addams.

"Wednesday, you're fucking with him?!" exclaimed the hyde.

Xavier's hand didn't leave Wednesday's cheek as the growled at the jackass in front of him. "Leave us alone, Tyler."

Wednesday's eyes trailed to Xavier's and then over to Tyler. "Yes. Go back to your father and be the good little son you claim to be."

"There's no way in hell, not until he gets off of you," Tyler growled in return.

Xavier slowly uncupped his hand from Wednesday's cheek and pulled away, making sure not an inch of his body was touching hers. Then he glanced up at the sheriff's son. "You happy now?"

Tyler stomped over to Wednesday's side and took her hand and pulled her off the ground. "Let's go, Wednesday."

He then bitterly turned back around to face Xavier. "Don't think about coming back to my house, Thorpe. You're a piece of shit."

Wednesday quickly glanced at Xavier, whose jaw was clenched as he watched Tyler's fingers enclose around hers. She glanced back at Tyler and then made a run for it.

"Wednesday!" Xavier shouted as he ran after her, with Tyler not far after him.

Wednesday quickly found a good-sized bush to hide behind and waited until Xavier ran by to pull him behind it.

"Wednesday--" He sighed with a breath of relief.

She immediately clamped her hands over his mouth and forced him into a squat behind the bush. "Hush," she whisper-commanded. "He will hear you if you talk, and we will have to fight again. It isn't worth it."

Xavier listened to her, and the two sat in silence as they waited for the hyde to pass by.

"What the hell," Tyler muttered under his breath as he walked by the bush, looking all around, trying to figure out where they could've gone.

"WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?!" He shouted as loud as he could. "WHEN I FIND YOU, YOU'RE GONNA BE IN A LIVING HELL, THORPE!"

Wednesday stared the hyde down until he stomped off back in the direction from which he'd come. Xavier couldn't help but let out some long-kept-in chuckles. "Damn, he's really desperate."

"No." Wednesday disagreed. "He is a jealous pig whose pride is filled to the brim with toxic masculinity."

Xavier nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that too."

They sat in a short moment of silence before Xavier said, "You know before he interrupted our-- uhh-- little moment back there, I think you were about to answer my question."

"You didn't ask a question," Wednesday replied, deadpan.

Xavier scooted close to her once more with his devious smile and dreamy eyes as he said, "Oh, I think you know what I'm talking about."

"No," Wednesday replied. "I do not recall you asking a question I did not answer."

Xavier, once more, cupped her face with one of his hands as he leaned into her ear and whispered, "I know you better than that by now, Addams."

Wednesday felt her heart drop when he uttered his last sentence. "You are lying, Xavier."

Xavier then caressed her cheek with his hand and slowly leaned down, lightly caressing the other cheek with his lips until he said, "I know you were talking about yourself about that painting, and I don't regret it because it brought me to this moment here with you."

Wednesday felt as if she lost all control of her body, letting her heart take the pilot seat, as she met Xavier's lips for the first time.

After everything Wednesday and Xavier and been through together thus far, they remained more loyal to each other than anyone else.

They were each other's.

But was it love?
