Xavier's heart had never beat so fast in his entire life. "Wait, actually? Y-you're willing to give us a chance?"

Wednesday glared at him. "Do not make me repeat the sentence, Xavier. Sweet talk is for soft-hearted normies."

The artist's entire face lit up. "Thank you!" He shouted, grinning from ear to ear.

"So, where do you wanna go on our first date?" Xavier asked after sitting back in the chair and calming down a minute later.

Wednesday blinked harshly. "We are in hiding, Xavier, and Sheriff Galpin will murder us if he sees anything. We can not go on a date."

"T-then what do you mean you'll give us a chance? You've gotta let loose on your stubbornness sometimes, Wednesday," said Xavier.

The raven stared him down. "We have to clear our names with Principal Opal. If we can not return to Nevermore, our entire plan is screwed."

"Okay, yeah. I get that, but there's no time. We've gotta stop Mila and Zach's dad and Mr. Anderson as soon as possible. There isn't time to do any planning," Xavier replied.

Wednesday stood up and began to walk away.

"Wednesday, wait! Where are you going?" asked Xavier.

"We can talk about this tomorrow with the others," Wednesday replied, deadpan.

"But what about us?" asked Xavier.

"What about us?" Wednesday asked impatiently in return.

Xavier swallowed nervously. "You said you'd give us a chance."

"I am," Wednesday merely replied. "What is your point of conversation?"

"I just-" Xavier sighed," I just don't get how you're giving us a chance if you won't even agree to go on a date."

"There is no possible way for you and I to go on a date anywhere in public without being reported to the police at the moment, Xavier. Do you expect me to go to the Weathervane or the Jericho City Mall with you? I can assure you, I will not. I am not one of those girls," Wednesday replied.

"No, of course not," Xavier said, shaking his head. "I would never expect that out of you. I'm just saying, there are other options. We could literally just go eat lunch together in the woods or something."

"When?" asked Wednesday.

"What?" asked Xavier in return.

"When are we going to eat lunch in the woods?" asked Wednesday.

"I--uh-- when do you wanna go?" asked Xavier in return.

"When is the date, Xavier? It is a simple question," said Wednesday.

"T- uh-- Does tomorrow work for you?" asked Xavier.

"Yes," Wednesday replied. "Goodbye, Xavier. I will see you tomorrow."

Xavier smiled and nodded. "Yeah-- uh-- I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight."

...

"Everybody, up and at 'em!" shouted Sheriff Galpin, banging a spatula against a cast iron pot, walking between the boys' and girls' rooms.

"Ugghhh," groaned Enid. "Will this torment ever end?!"

Wednesday sat up straight in her bed, looking over at her best friend. "Do not come looking for me during lunch."

"Why?" Enid asked with a yawn.

Wednesday blinked harshly. "Xavier and I are eating lunch together in the woods."
