"Damn it," Xavier cursed under his breath as he and Wednesday walked back to the rental car, "This is worse than I could've ever imagined."

Wednesday glanced over at him. "Did you truly believe the founding families were innocent, Xavier? After Joseph Crackhead, I mean Crackstone, almost murdered you last semester?"

"No, I could never forget that night," Xavier said shaking his head. "You almost fucking died, Wednesday. For me."

The raven frowned upon that comment. "This is no time for dramatic romance proclamations. The outcasts are in danger, Xavier. You are in danger."

The artist couldn't help but smirk. "Didn't you just say this was no time for romance?"

"The fact that you are in close proximity to being kidnapped, publicly falsely accused, and murdered is no proclamation of romance, Xavier. You heard Mila and Zachary's father in there. You are their next target," Wednesday murmured.

Xavier shrugged. "Still, it's cute you care so much."

Wednesday glared at him. "Do not call me cute."

Xavier smirked and bowed. "My apologies, miss professional night stalker."

"Are you capable of getting it together and not acting like a fool, flirting with a girl other than your girlfriend while your life is at stake?" Wednesday asked.

Xavier shook his head, smiling. "Shut up. You know we would be dating if we didn't have to go along with your little plan. Come on, we should probably be headed back."

"Why else would we be walking back to the car?" Wednesday shot back.

Xavier smiled. "Knowing you, we'd probably end up spying on Timothy Anderson and the Chapmans the rest of the night."

...

Once they got back to Nevermore, they tried to decide what was best to do.

"Wednesday, we can't just sneak in. Principal Opal trusts us," Xavier commented.

Wednesday stared intensely back at the boy. "Principal Opal will not assist us in the way that is safest for the kidnapped outcasts. She is too kind for her own good."

"That's not a thing, Wednesday. She'll help us. Just trust me, okay?" Xavier said, rolling his eyes.

Wednesday stopped dead in her tracks and unapologetically shot back, "Why would I trust someone who almost got me killed last semester?"

"Did you really just play that card?" Xavier asked defensively.

"And I will again if I need to," Wednesday answered. "I am trying to not get anyone murdered in this scenario, Xavier, and that includes you."

"That doesn't have anything to do with Principal Opal," Xavier dully responded.

Wednesday pulled Xavier aside from the gate. "Do you have Enid's phone number?" She whispered.

"W- Why? Wednesday, what are you doing?" Xavier asked in return.

"Answer the question, Xavier. Do you have Enid's phone number?" Wednesday asked again.

"Yeah... Do you not have it?" Xavier asked.

Wednesday stared at him as if he were the stupidest man alive. "I do not use the cellular device you gave me, Xavier. We've been over this before. Call Enid."

Xavier rolled his eyes but obeyed his girl's command and called Enid.

"Xavier, why are you calling me so late? Do you know where Wednesday is?! I haven't seen her since earlier this afternoon, and I'm starting to get really worried!!" Enid shouted through the other side of the phone.
