Wednesday stared at the dreamy-eyed boy. "This is not the time to play jokes, Xavier. I do not understand why you expect me to be honest with you if you can not reciprocate the action."

The artist's jaw dropped. "Wednesday, I'm not joking. It's you. You're the person I... have feelings for."

The noirette displayed no emotion. "Do you really expect me to believe you?"

Xavier grabbed her hand, forcing her to look him directly in the eyes. "I cross my heart and swear to die, it's you. It's you, Wednesday. It has been since the moment I met you."

Wednesday frowned. "Your confession could not be more untimely, Xavier."

"What does that mean? I need to know how you feel, Wednesday," said the boy.

The girl's heart stung with despair.

Oh, how she wanted to tell him how much he'd been plaguing her mind, how much she truly cared for him, and how she wanted exactly what he did.

"It does not matter how I feel, Xavier. I already told Mila that you are single. If something were to happen between us, my plan would turn into a breathless cadaver sinking at the bottom of the ocean. It would all be in ruins. Feelings are of no concern at this point."

The artist didn't take that well. "Just answer the question, Wednesday. Please."

The raven glanced over at the bus they had been chatting by. "If we spend any more time talking nonsensical chatter, the trolly will leave us. Let's go."

"Fine," Xavier muttered, shaking his head.

...

Just a few hours later, Xavier got a text from Mila. She asked him how he was and asked if they could meet up to talk.

He didn't know how to answer, so he just said maybe another time. Besides, he had another quest. He had to go look for Enid.

The artist roamed the halls and even snuck onto the girl's wing to go to Enid and Wednesday's dorm to look for them there. No luck.

Finally, he found them in the dining hall.

He was almost afraid to be around Wednesday after his confession, not knowing how she felt and all. Unfortunately, he had no other option but to be around her to go talk to Enid.

"Hey guys," Xavier said, drawing the girls' attention to himself.

Wednesday stared at him with the utmost intensity. She waved at him and he smiled back before turning to Enid.

"Can I pull you away for a sec?" The artist asked the werewolf.

Enid shrugged. "Sure. Wednesday, you wanna come? I don't wanna leave you here alone."

Xavier shook his head, avoiding eye contact with the noirette. "I was hoping I could speak to you alone."

Enid frowned and looked at Wednesday for an okay. The raven simply stared. "I am not afraid of being alone, Enid. It is my element. Go. I am sure whatever Xavier has to say is more important than what we were talking about."

Enid hesitantly followed Xavier out of the dining hall. "Is there something bothering you? Did Wednesday say something weird? If she did, it's probably not anything toward you. She's been going through shit trying to figure out how to deal with that stalker and stuff."

Xavier shook his head. "No, she didn't say anything at all. That's the problem."

The werewolf frowned. "I'm not following. Is she ghosting you or something? I'm going to need a little more context."

The artist chuckled to himself. "No, not ghosting me. I--" The boy stuttered. How was he supposed to tell Enid about his whole confession to Wednesday?

"I told Wednesday I had feelings for her, and when I asked how she felt, she just dodged the question. I dunno how to really go about it. I mean, has she even mentioned it? Or anything about me?"

Enid clapped her hands, squealed, and began jumping up and down. "OH MY GOD, FINALLY! I'VE BEEN WAITING SO FREAKING LONG FOR THIS! WAVIER CAN FINALLY HAPPEN!"

"Wavier?" Xavier asked with a raised eyebrow.

Enid shrugged with a giddy grin. "Your ship name- put Wednesday and Xavier together, and you get wavier!"

Xavier nodded with slight confusion. "Uh-- Yeah-- Okay, I guess. Anyways, have you-- uh-- you know-- Has Wednesday said anything about it?"

Enid's lips twisted downwards into a small frown. "Well, not really. But I wouldn't really expect her to. It's pretty obvious she feels the same way, but I don't think she's really ready to come to terms with it yet. Anytime I mention you she just denies denies denies. But in Wednesday's terms, that means she really likes you. What made you tell her, anyways?"

The boy looked at his feet, blushing. "She told a girl I was single and that I didn't like anyone... and I dunno, I guess I just couldn't keep it from her anymore. Wednesday is the only girl I'm even remotely interested in, and I don't think that's gonna change any time soon."

"Wait, who did she tell you're single?!" Enid questioned.

Xavier rolled his eyes. "A girl named Mila. I mean she's cool and all, but-"

"Mila?! Mila Chapman?!" Enid exclaimed.

Xavier nodded. "How did you know?"

Enid shrugged. "It's not really a secret you guys used to talk. She's never really gotten over you if I'm being honest. Lucas has mentioned it to Bianca a few times."

Then the girl's eyes widened. "Wait! Does Wednesday know you and Mila used to talk?!"

"I don't know how she would. It's not like I've ever talked to her about it or anything," Xavier responded.

Enid quickly whipped out her phone and began typing.

"Really, you're just gonna respond to a text while we're talking? That's kinda rude, Enid," the boy retorted.

The werewolf rolled her eyes. "I'm texting Wednesday."

Xavier shook his head with an eye roll. "How is that gonna help anything?"

Enid shot him a death stare. "I'm asking if she knows about you and Mila's history."

Xavier shrugged. "Alright, I guess it doesn't hurt to try. She's probably gonna dodge the question though."

"She knows. James told her about it," Enid said immediately.

"Fuck," Xavier muttered under his breath. "He always has to get in the way."

Enid frowned. "I bet this is why Wednesday dodged your question. She's not a very insecure person, but Mila probably makes her feel threatened."

"Why?! I've known Wednesday longer than I've known Mila," Xavier retorted.

Enid shook her head. "No. You talked to Mila over two years ago. You met Wednesday last semester."

Xavier shook his head in defense. "No, I met Wednesday years ago- when we were ten."

Enid raised her eyebrows. "Oh, wow. I didn't know that."

"Yeah," Xavier said, nodding, looking at the ground.

Enid let out a reluctant sigh. "Look, I'll talk to Wednesday tonight, okay? Maybe I can get some of her input on all of this. I know she feels the same way, Xavier. You don't have to worry about that."

Xavier frowned. "Then what do I have to worry about?"

"Wednesday getting jealous. If she gets jealous, this is going to become a living hell," Enid warned.

Well, shit Xavier thought.

This is all James's fault. I have got to talk to Wednesday again.
