Jennie
"Can I help you ladies?" a gentleman with a head of white hair and a matching navy shirt and trousers on, asks.
"Hi, I was wondering if we could see Lisa?" I ask, now totally regretting following Jisoo's plan.
"Lisa?" he asks confused. "Oh, you mean Lali. Who should I say is here?"
"Jen."
"Wait a minute, you're her lady friend. Why don't you all come through." He says kindly while leading Jisoo, myself and the kids pass the lone fire engine, and through a few corridors until we get to a kitchen and dining area. A few guys are sitting at the large table when we enter. "This is Jen, she's here to see Lali, do you know where she is?"
The guys eyes light up in recognition when my name is mentioned, causing me to blush.
"She woke up about twenty minutes ago and was heading to freshen up. This will be her next stop." One of the guys say.
"Right then, I'll leave you ladies here then and send Lali this way if I see her." The older gentleman says.
"Thank you." Jisoo says sweetly.
Jisoo's boys start peppering the guys about being a fire fighter. Causing Jisoo to step in. "Boys, cool it. Why don't you show the guys what we've made?" she says while handing the box that she was carrying to Josh.
"We made fairy cakes for everyone. Do you want one?" Jacob says proudly, while kneeling on the seat across from the guys.
"Yes please." One of the guys says.
It was nice watching how the two guys interacted with Josh and Jacob. They take a bite of the cakes and make out that it's the best thing that they've ever tasted, making the boys beam.
"Lili!" Ella yells while running to the door.
Lisa scoops her up into her arms and gives her a kiss on the head. "Hey Ella. Are you okay? Did you sleep okay at Jisoo's?"
She nods her head. "When we go home, Lili?"
"Hopefully soon, baby. I'm working hard to get us home." Lisa says, while rubbing Ella's arm in a comforting manner.
My heart starts racing as I watch the scene. I've been so afraid to want it all. To want a girlfriend who will help me raise Ella and love her like she is her own, that I didn't realise I already had it in front of me. Ella took to Lisa instantly and Lisa has been nothing but great with my daughter. My little own family has formed around me, without me even noticing.
Lisa turns to look at me and smiles. She makes her way over to me with Ella still in her arms and places a kiss on my lips. That's not enough for me though. I grab her face and pour all my feelings into a knee-weakening lip lock. When we pull apart enough to catch our breath, she has a dazed look on her face. "I love you." I say, when I can catch my breath.
Her whole face lights up, making me know that I'm making the right choice. She holds Ella in the one arm and puts her other around my waist. "And I love you. I love you both."
It's a momentous moment between us that is ruined by Jacob. "Lisa, we made fairy cakes."
"And we beat you to them." One of the guys say, getting a high five off Jacob.
"Ahh, Jacob, I thought you were my mate." Lisa says dramatically.
"There still some here, Lisa." Josh says shyly.
"Thank you, Josh, at least someone cares." She says, while poking her tongue out at a giggling Jacob. As she goes to grab a cake, she stops to ruffle both of the boys' hair.
After Lisa has had something to eat and has introduced us to the guys properly. Their names being Wacko Jacko and Marky Mark. Well, that was what Lisa called them and they apparently called her Lali. The older gentleman from earlier is called Snowy.
Lisa, Wacko Jacko and Marky Mark take us on a tour of the fire house absolutely making Josh and Jacob's day. They let the boys try on their gear, timing them as they struggle to put it all on. With Wacko Jacko and Marky Mark distracting all the kids with the fire engine, Lisa comes over to talk to me.
"How bad is it out there?" I ask nervously.
She gently places a hand on the small of my back. "The warehouse fire is mostly under control. It's not out, nowhere near going out yet, but if the weather holds, we'll keep it contained. We're not the only brigade out there which helps us cover more ground."
"What happens if the weather changes?"
She sighs. "With how dry this summer has been, all it would take is a change in the wind direction and we'd be dealing with a wild fire. That's why I wanted the two of you out of the house. That parkland behind boarders the back of the house."
"The news is saying that people in our area are having to keep their windows closed because of the smell of smoke."
"You can probably still smell it on me and I've already showered twice today."
I lean in to smell her hair and find traces of smoke still there. Suddenly an alarm wails and the three firefighters jump into action. Snowy rushes out of an office to the side.
"The winds changed. They need you up there."
Lisa jumps into her boots, pulls her trousers up and slides her jacket on in a matter of seconds. She rushes over to me and gives me a quick peck on the lips.
"Come back to me." I tell her.
"I will." She nods. Before rushing off to hop in the fire engine. Within minutes, the whole team is onboard and racing out the big red doors.
Jisoo comes over and puts an arm around my shoulders. "She's going to be fine."
"I can't lose her, Jisoo."
"I know sweetie. I know." She says soothingly, while pulling me into a hug.
