Chapter Fifty Seven

"I felt I was a danger to Natalie by staying in the house. I couldn't hurt her or Tobias." I said

"Tris, you would never hurt her or Tobias." Amar said

"Look what I did to you." I said

"I'm fine. Just a bruise."

I looked at my hands. Amar left the room. I fell asleep on the bed. I woke really early. It was 3 am. I went to the bathroom. Tears were running down my face. I couldn't believe what I did to Amar. I'm a murderer. I punched the mirror. It shattered. I heard footsteps in the hallway. I grabbed a piece of glass and slit my left wrist. Someone burst into my room. David. I fell to the ground. I was weak. The glass fell from my hands. I blacked out.

I woke in the hospital. Amar was sitting by my side. I nudged his hand. He looked at me.

"Good. You're awake. Someone wants to see you." Amar said

"Who is it?" I said

"It's a surprise."

"Tell. Me." I said

I sat up. I ripped the IV out of my arm. I ripped the heart monitors off. Nurses came in. I jumped off the bed and pushed past them. I went into the waiting room. Tobias was sitting there. Natalie was sitting next to him.

"You brought her?" I said

"She wanted to see you. You've been gone for 5 weeks." Tobias said

5 weeks. I walked over to Natalie. She wrapped her arms around my waist.

"You missed my 6th birthday mama." Natalie said

"I'm sorry baby." I said

"It's alright mama. I saved you some chocolate cake." Natalie said

Amar came into the waiting room. He guided me back into the room. David had a syringe in his hand. Tobias rushed in.

"Its okay. David isn't gonna hurt me." I said

Tobias went back into the waiting room. David came over to me. He put everything back on my body where it was.

"It helps heal wounds faster. I promise nothing in this will harm you." David said

He injected the liquid into my arm. The ringing started. I clenched my teeth. I laid back down. Tobias came in.

"What did you do to her?" he yelled

"Tris, talk to me." David said

I looked around the room for Amar. He was gone.

"Its. Amar." I said through clenched teeth

"What is he doing Tris?" Tobias asked

Amar walked through the doorway and smiled. I ripped everything from me again. I jumped off the bed. I ran to him and secured my hands around his throat.

"Make. It. Stop."I yelled

Amar pressed a button in his shoulder and it stopped. I let go. I fell to the ground. Tobias and David helped me up.

"What was he doing to you?" David asked

"The attacks have started again." I said

"He's creating a high pitched frequency. It's created so that no one but her can hear it." Tobias said

I felt the back of my ear. I pulled out the frequency device. I pulled it out of the other ear. David held out his hand so he could see them. I placed them in his hand.

"Once they are taken out, they are worthless." Tobias said

David put them in his pocket.

"I will dispose of them." David said

He helped me off the bed and back to the room I was staying in. Before we got there, I stopped.

"Everything okay?" David asked

"We can't stay in that room. Amar will know where we are." I said

David turned to me.

"Then the only way you can be safe is to go home. Go back to the city." David said

"Why do you suddenly care about me now David?" I asked

"I realized what I had done before I put your mother in the city. I realized I couldn't hurt my own daughter." David said

David is my dad?

"How did you hide it?" I asked

"I injected her with a serum that enabled you to live inside her longer than intended and she wouldn't show any signs." David said

No wonder why I didn't look anything like my father or Caleb. Technically now I'm older than Caleb.

"Go home." David said "Process this. When you think you can handle it, come back and I'll explain everything."

I nodded. I looked back at Tobias. His face was filled with pure confusion. I looked back at David, I mean dad.

"Go home Beatrice. I want you to be safe. Take care of Natalie and Tobias. I'll come visit you soon." dad said

"I thought you couldn't do that." I said

"I could come up with some disguise." dad said

I turned to Tobias. Dad escorted us out to the fence. We walked instead of taking Amar's truck. Tobias carried Natalie on his back. When we got to the fence, I turned to dad. We said our good byes and jumped over the fence.
