Whenever I was with the Boys and we were walking past the prison cells. They would growl in the direction of the Senior Rileys.
I mentioned this too Paddy after one of his sleep cycles.
"I noticed that too. They are becoming very aggressive towards them." Paddy said.
A few days later I was on duty in front of the Council when they were being brought out for their flogging. I saw their hands twitch in my direction. I felt something stinging me. I looked down I had little silver darts stuck in me.
I sunk to my knees.
"Kylie?" Councilwoman Cleo called to me. I turned to look at her. She screamed my name. I had blood running out of my mouth, eyes and ears.
I remember laying on the ground with Paddy and Shaun staring down at me.
"Kylie. Kylie."
I heard a lot of growling around me.
Scott was bending down looking at something. He pulled out the little silver darts.
I blinked. I think.
I saw Paddy, Shaun, Shannon, Gen, Colleen and Quinn draw their swords.
I blinked again.
I woke up in Scott's special room again.
Paddy had his head down beside me on the bed. I put my hand on him.
"You are awake." He said smiling.
"What happened? I saw you with your sword." I whispered.
"It is not important right now."
"Paddy tell me." I said hoarsely.
"You have been asleep for three days Kylie. I am more concerned about you then what happened to the prisoners."
"I do not care about the prisoners either. I just want to know what happened. Scott pulled something out of me."
"Oh those! They were little silver darts. As far as he could tell there was nothing in them. He managed to cut one in half. It was solid silver." He nodded.
He pulled my hair out from under me. He started playing with it. He only did this when he was upset.
"What is wrong?" I whispered.
He shook his head. "It is nothing."
Scott walked in. "Ah you are awake. Do you hurt anywhere?"
I moved my body around gently.
"No. Nothing hurts."
"Good. Let us stand you up." I sat up slowly. I was in the same clothes I was in three days ago. They were covered in blood.
"Whose blood is this?"
Paddy cleared his throat. "Yours."
"Mine? What did I do? I do not remember fighting anyone."
"You did not. We were protecting the Council. Our swords hit you a few times."
"Who was going after the Council?"
"The prisoners."
"What?"
"They were trying to provoke us into killing them. I think they are tired of being locked up."
"I do not feel a bit sorry for them." I whispered. "Where are the Boys?"
Paddy looked up at Scott then looked at the beds behind me. I turned too quickly I became dizzy. Paddy held me in place.
"They are sleeping right now. Your wounds were more worrisome then theirs." Scott said.
"My wounds? What happened to them?" Paddy turned red.
"They fought the prisoners. John was able to take down the male prisoner. Pete had the female down." He coughed. "Councilwoman Cleo made the prisoners hot. The Boys were burned."
I sled off the high bed. Paddy helped me to the Boys. I could not see anything wrong with them. "Councilwoman Cleo felt bad for hurting them. She came and gave them some of her blood to heal. They have been asleep ever since."
"I can understand that. It turns my eyes red."
"They have dark purple eyes."
"Purple?" Paddy and I said together.
"Yes I think it is the shifter in them. It is most dominant right now."
"You might be right. They had shifted a few times already." Paddy said.
"If the Council's blood makes your eyes red. The combination of the two would make their eyes purple."
"Fascinating." Paddy said. I giggled.
"Um she gave you some too." Scott pointed at me.
"Me? My eyes are red, are they not?"
They nodded.
The Boys started to wake up. "Mom. Mom." They mumbled in their sleep.
"I am here." I said softly. Their eyes sprang open.
"Mom!" They hugged me.
"Are you all right?" They sniffed. "Your blood smells delicious."
"Yes it does and no you can not have any."
"Why?" They pouted.
"It would kill me."
"Oh we do not want that."
I looked down at my clothes. "I need to change."
"Come with me." Paddy took my hand.
The Boys sat up. "What about us?"
"You two just woke up. You will rest here for a little while. Your parents will come back to get you."
"Oh all right." They laid back down.
"We will not be long." Paddy said as we left.
I felt a little stiff from not moving for so long. Paddy kissed my hand. "I am so glad you are awake. I was beginning to worry that there was sangria in those little darts."
"I am glad too. There must have been some thing on them to make me faint."
"Scott only checked if there was something in them. I do not know if he checked what was on them."
"I guess we will never know." I thought it was kind of strange that no one was around. "Where is everyone?"
"Oh an Algonquin tribe came by to see their family's burial site. The Council and most of the Guard have gone."
We entered our quarters. It looked like no one had been here for a while. He looked at me shyly. "With the three of you at Scott's. I did not see the point of coming here."
"I understand." I touched his face.
I peeled off the dry bloody clothes and threw them in the trash.
We went down to the bathing pool. Paddy grabbed the soap. He started to wash off the dried blood when he was done I washed him.
We kissed and stayed in the pool for a while.
We picked up the Boys and went to feed. The Boys enjoyed eating as animals.
We walked the perimeter and checked in with all the sentry posts. It felt good to move around and stretch.
The Boys kept to themselves. They were whispering in their special language. Paddy kept glancing at them. I touched his cheek.
He signed to me. 'It's the Boys when they were in their animal form. They somehow blocked their thoughts from me.'
'You can do that?'
'I guess we can.' He shrugged his shoulders. Paddy put his finger to his lips. He was listening to them.
