Every month we would patrol up to Montreal and when we do everyone would have their letters and parcels ready for friends and family to be sent.

Samuel has been writing to his family in Leon. He told them how spacious it was with no people to crowd us in.

Cassie, Samuel, Paddy, me and six others went to Montreal just after a recent snow fall. Barry and Walter were showing us how to walk on the snow. The Algonquin had made some snowshoes for us. They work really great.

We were in Montreal two days later.

Our first stop was the mail office to mail our letters and things. We picked up our letters for our group. There was plenty. Many for the Council and some for every family.

"You are Samuel Brecken?" The proprietor asked.

"Yes I am."

"There is a man at the Fleur-de-Lis on Catherine Street. He has been asking for you."

"Do you know his name Sir?"

"Yes. Wilbert Barley."

"Thank you Sir."

"Grandfather is here Cassie."

We went to the Fleur-de-Lis to see Wilbert. There was more than Wilbert at the pub.

Wilbert was sitting at a table when we walked in.

"There is my grandson." He moved towards us. "What took you so long? I have been waiting for three weeks for you."

"Grandfather we only come to Montreal once a month."

"Oh. I see. Well you are here now." Wilbert moved towards the door.

"Where are you going?"

"I am going to see where you live."

"Yes but we just arrived. We still have other business to attend to."

"When do we leave then?" He looked disappointed.

"In a couple of days."

"All right Samuel. Come and get me when you are ready to leave."

Wilbert sat back down. He did not look too happy.

"Grandfather how many are with you?"

Wilbert thought for a moment. "Twenty."

"Thank you."

We took lodgings at the inn next door.

The next day we completed our business. Samuel bought twenty pairs of snowshoes and a sled for Wilbert's group.

We went to see him that night.

"Good evening Grandfather. You will be happy to know we are leaving in the morning."

"Excellent." He clapped his hands.

"I have purchased snowshoes for all of you."

"What are snowshoes Samuel?"

Samuel looked a bit frustrated. "It is better if I just showed you." He brought Wilbert outside.

Mikalia came down the stairs.

"Kylie." She gave me a hug then smiled.

"It is good to see you."

"You too Mikalia. How was the crossing?"

"Uneventful."

"That is the best kind."

She laughed. She greeted the rest of the party.
