We were in our fourth month when the snows came. John and Paddy had a hard time staying warm. I made sure we had a lot of firewood in or near the hut. I also kept a pot of stew or soup on the fire for them.
John was sleeping less and remembering more. He also started helping with the cooking. He still found it a little difficult to cook something. I found him a few times staring at apiece of meat or wondering what a spoon was for.
One night while they were eating we heard a noise outside. I went to investigate. I walked around the hut watching the trees and sniffing the air. There were some animals hiding in the woods.
I walked back into the hut John was going through some rapid shifting. Paddy had me stand beside the doorway. John ran for the door. I stepped further away.
I felt a kiss on my cheek as Paddy ran by shifting into what ever John was at the moment. I heard a frustrated cry outside. I went to see.
John was having a hard time running in the deep snow. Paddy, as an elk, waited for him to decide on what shape he was going to shift into.
John went from a bear to a deer to a moose to an elephant then he decided to fly he became a falcon and flew up into the dark night. Paddy followed close behind him.
I went inside to add more wood to the fire then I put more water on for tea. They should be back soon enough. A few minutes later I heard some animals fighting outside the hut. They did not sound like Paddy and John.
John had not become aggressive yet.
I went out to check again. As I walked out of the hut. I was attacked by wolves with brilliant blue eyes. I fought them off as best as I could. They kept me from grabbing my sword. It was like they knew I would go for it. They were able to pull me down to the ground.
This is where Paddy and John found me hours later.
"Mom what happened?" John was panicked. Paddy picked me up and carried me into the hut. I managed to say "Wolves. Blue eyes."
"Shifters did this." Paddy said angrily.
"No." I whispered. "Something else."
"I am going to find something for you to feed on. John try to stay with your Mother."
"All right Dad. I will try."
Paddy left. John kept pushing my body parts back together. Paddy returned with a deer. John sat me up so I could feed. It helped me enough that I could move again.
"I will be back."
"Kylie be careful." I nodded to Paddy.
I ran quickly through the deep snow. I fed on some deer then headed back to the hut.
Quinn was in the hut.
"Mom are you all right?"
"I am now."
He hugged me. I caught a familiar scent. It was one of the wolves that attacked me. I gasped. "Mom?"
"It was Missy." I whispered.
We heard some wolves howling in the distance.
"That is them." Paddy said as he headed for the door.
"Paddy. Its Missy, William and Brian." He turned towards me.
"What?"
"I just smelled the same scent off of Quinn. It has to be Missy."
"Mom's right Dad. Missy and the others woke up yesterday in their animal form. I came to warn you. I have been tracking them since noon yesterday."
"Warn us?" Paddy said. It was more like 'what happened?'
