The tension in the air was palpable, and all eyes turned to Noah with expressions of shock, anger, disbelief, and disappointment etched on their faces.

Miray's hand froze in the grass, her gaze fixed on Noah, a glimmer of hurt evident in her eyes.

She swallowed hard, trying to suppress the lump in her throat, and cast her eyes downward, wishing for the ground to open up and swallow her.

She knew Noah was going to apologize, but she simply didn't want to hear it.

Noah's voice trembled as he tried to speak, his words catching in his throat. "I-... I didn't mean that," he stammered, desperation evident in his voice. "I swear... I really didn't... I never thought like that, and I surely don't, please believe me..." he pleaded, the stress and sincerity evident in his words.

Then why did you say it - Miray's mind echoed with the question, but she chose to keep her thoughts to herself.

"It's okay," Miray whispered, her voice barely audible. She didn't want to talk about it and wished Noah would just leave her alone.

Noah felt a surge of frustration and an overwhelming urge to cry. "It's not okay!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with self-anger. He moved closer, and Miray felt the need to crawl back. "Please, Rei," he pleaded, his voice laced with desperation. "You have to believe me, I swear to God that I didn't mean it."

The desperation and plea in Noah's voice tugged at Miray's heart, causing her to soften slightly. She sighed and locked eyes with him, her gaze meeting his glimmering green eyes. Despite the hurtful comment he had made, she couldn't help but feel empathy for his distress.

"Noah," she began as she held his gaze, "I know you didn't mean it, but even if you did, it's really okay," She paused briefly, allowing her words to sink in before continuing. "Your thoughts and opinions are your own, and you don't need to apologize for them. If you have a different perspective on homeschooling, that's okay..."

Miray's words were a mix of reassurance for Noah and an attempt to convince herself that it was indeed okay.

"But I don't," Noah cried out, his voice filled with desperation and sadness. He felt utterly miserable, unable to bear the weight of his mistake. "I didn't mean to say it because I don't believe its true, and I've never thought like that," he continued, his voice trembling with emotion.

"Then it's okay," Miray said softly, forcing a small smile on her face, even though her heart felt heavy.

She didn't want Noah to see how much his words had affected her. Deep down, she was anything but happy, but she didn't want to burden him with her emotions.
