Vince swung open the door with eager anticipation, his heart set on catching a glimpse of Miray.
The boys trailed behind him, sharing his enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Arthur and his family had departed, seemingly indifferent to Miray's well-being and concerns. For Arthur, the survival of his son was all that mattered, a fact that filled him with relief.
He still needed his sons. And now that he saved his son's life, Arthur felt like a lot of things would change.
Deep down, he had secretly wished that Miray hadn't made it through, wishing for a return to a seemingly perfect life with just him and his sons, free from any external influences...
Vince's steps stuttered, a momentary halt in his walk as he locked his eyes onto Miray's peaceful form, nestled in sleep. The scene flooded his senses, causing a sudden hitch in his breath.
With unsteady feet, he approached her bedside, oblivious to Ren's presence who had been holding Miray's hand but let go and stepped back, giving Vince the room to reconnect with his sister.
Gently, Vince settled onto the edge of the bed, forcing back a small wince, his heart constricting at the sight of how much skinnier Miray had become since the last time he had seen her. The visible change in her physical state struck him deeply, a reminder of the challenges she had faced during his absence.
But there was comfort in the fact that she was breathing. The steady rhythm of her chest rising and falling provided reassurance.
"I hate you!"
The memory of their argument echoed in his mind, Miray's voice heavy with frustration and her tear-streaked face vividly replaying before him and tugged at his heartstrings.
As he reached for Miray's hand, carefully cradling it in his own, a strange yet comforting warmth enveloped him despite the coldness of her skin.
Seeing Miray and holding her hand made Vince feel alive again, as if the air he breathed was finally filling his lungs. It was as if the touch of her hand and the sight of her delicate form breathed life back into his very being, filling each breath with a renewed sense of life.
Her mere existence was the essence that his soul had yearned for.
His gaze danced tenderly across her features, like a painter tracing the lines of a beloved masterpiece. He extended his free hand and gently cupped her cheek. His thumb cradled her cheek with the utmost tenderness.
With the gentlest of touches, he traced the arcs of her finely defined eyebrows, each stroke a soft expression of his affection. His eyes drank in every inch of her angelic countenance, unable to tear himself away. It was as though her beauty held a mesmerizing power, captivating him entirely.
The cascade of her silky hair, her perfectly sculpted nose, a bridge between innocence and grace. Her long, thick eyelashes casting delicate shadows on her skin.
In that moment, the depth of his affection surged forth with an intensity that was almost overwhelming. Love, profound and unspoken, flowed through him like a river's current.
