Luke picked Miray up in a bridal carry and was about to walk outside when Miray suddenly winced, "Sorry," he said apologetically, adjusting her in his arms.
Miray nuzzled her face into his neck, hiding her face from Vince's keen eyes.
Once downstairs, Luke carefully placed Miray on the sofa, and Vince reached for the soft blanket on the armchair, wanting to place it over Miray's shaking body.
He knew Luke would cover Miray up since she couldn't lie down without pulling the covers up over her body, but Vince wanted to do it himself.
It was his way of getting closer... of doing something rather than losing his damn mind.
Fortunately, Miray didn't object and just closed her eyes. Vince sighed and placed the blanket over her, and stood there, staring and fighting the urge to scoop her up in his arms and never letting go.
Vince didn't know what it was, but he had this strange feeling as he watched Luke's fingers slowly running through Miray's hair, lulling her to sleep.
He had this childish urge to shove Luke's hand away and run his fingers in Miray's hair. The fact that Miray refused his touch and felt uncomfortable with him annoyed him beyond words.
This had never happened before.
Vince was always the one Miray never felt uncomfortable with.
It wasn't long before Miray was breathing softly, mouth slightly open, and soft snores coming out.
Damian walked inside with two plates in hand. "Oh, she's already asleep?" he asked, disappointed.
When Noah came down and told them Miray was asking for Luke, Damian got a bit hopeful and decided to coax her into eating some mouthfuls.
But she had already slept...
"Hmm," Luke hummed, fingers still moving in Miray's hair, eyes soft and fond as he stared at Miray's sleeping face. He smiled sadly as he slowly traced the back of his index finger over her soft cheeks.
She seemed like she had lost some weight which worried him.
Damian sighed and was about to place the plates on the table when he paused, "Should we eat in the kitchen then?" he asked, sounding unsure.
They only decided to eat in the living room to keep Miray company.
Noah, Rayan, and Kaiden halted with the plates in their hands, waiting for them to decide where they should eat.
They all wished they would let them eat in the living room and watch over Miray. She hardly came down and spent time with them, and now that she was ill, they all felt worried sick and wanted to stay.
"No, it's okay," Luke said, standing up and exhaling, "We can eat here; she could wake up any moment." he nodded at the boys, who seemed to release a sigh of relief.
Luke sat on the carpet close to Miray's sleeping form, leaning his back on the sofa parallel to Miray's stomach. Kaiden handed him his plate, and Luke mumbled a small 'thank you'.
Just when they were about to start eating, the doorbell rang.
Luke raised his eyebrow, "Are we expecting someone?" he asked no one in particular.
