Miray carefully searched for the perfect moment to slip away unnoticed. Sensing that everyone was becoming drowsy and no one was paying attention to her, she silently stood up. However, much to her dismay, all eyes immediately turned toward her as if they had been secretly observing her every move. The sudden focus on her presence caught her off guard, shattering her hopes of a discreet exit.
"What's wrong?" Noah asked with concern, rising from his seat, joined by Kaiden, Ren, and Rayan, all waiting for an explanation.
Feeling a surge of anger for reasons she couldn't quite pinpoint, Miray swallowed her frustration. "I-I need to use the bathroom," she stammered, her voice tinged with an uncharacteristic irritation. "I'll be right back," she added, determined to leave without further explanation.
"I'll come with you," Noah offered in a gentle tone.
Miray had always yearned for Noah to be gentle with her and make such offers, but in that exact moment, she wished he would just ignore her and leave her alone, just as he used to because it would make it easier for her to do as she pleased without the need for explanations.
The timing of Noah and Rayan's changed behavior felt completely wrong to Miray, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of dislike toward it. It seemed to undermine her plans, leaving her unsettled and frustrated.
"I can go by myself," Miray said dismissively, trying her best to control her frustration. "I also need a moment to myself," she explained, emphasizing her desire for privacy. With determination in her eyes, she turned around, her hands clenched tightly, silently praying they would just leave her alone.
Rayan's heart raced as he stared at the three guys, waiting for one of them to object or insist on accompanying Miray. To his surprise, everyone seemed hesitant, uncertain about what to do.
Unable to stop himself, Rayan decided to follow her, only realizing later that Ren had also moved before him when he saw him rushing ahead. They both reached Miray just as she was about to reach the elevator. However, before she could stop and press the button, Ren gently grabbed her hand, bringing her to a halt.
Miray turned around and sighed in relief when she saw that it was Ren. She knew he was more understanding than the others, and she hoped to convince him quickly.
"I know you want to be alone, but how about I accompany you just until the bathroom? I won't talk or ask anything, I promise," Ren rushed, his concern evident in his voice.
For some reason, Ren's words didn't irritate her like the others'. Perhaps it was because she had grown accustomed to his understanding nature. "Thanks, Ren," she smiled appreciatively, reaching out to hold his hand and giving it a gentle squeeze.
Rayan's heart burned with intense jealousy, the kind that twists and torments deep inside. It wasn't a fleeting envy, but a profound and all-consuming feeling that gnawed at his very core. As he watched Miray's hand intertwine with Ren's and the gentle smile she offered him, his chest tightened with a sense of profound loss and self-loathing.
He couldn't help but compare himself to Ren, noticing the huge contrast between their upbringings, their families, and their very essence that seemed insurmountable (aka too great to be overcome *wink*).
