"What is happening here?!" Luke demanded curtly as he sat his briefcase down, jaw set.

Miray's whole body froze, her eyes widening.

Emily took advantage of the moment to successfully wriggle her hair away from Miray's hold, and just when she was about to slap Miray's face, Ren pulled her hands back, glaring at her.

"LET GO, YOU ASSHOLE!" Emily shouted furiously, yanking her hand from his grip as tears of anger streamed down her face.

How dare they treat her like this!

No one had ever pulled her hair before or dared to touch her!

She felt violated.

Mistreated.

Wronged.

It felt awful.

"Then keep your hands to yourself." Ren mimicked apathetically, sounding totally indifferent.

"REN!" Steven chided, taken aback by his little brother's rude behavior. "What is going on here?" he asked, sounding confused.

He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"This b-... this-" Emily struggled against her anger, "She was pulling my hair!" she cried angrily, her nostrils flaring as she glared at Miray, her features twisting with hatred and anger.

How dare she!

Confusion flashed across Luke's face briefly before he finally noticed Miray's petite body held by Kaiden when the latter stepped away and placed Miray on her feet, keeping one arm behind her back to steady her.

Luke's heart sank at the look in Miray's eyes.

She seemed terrified of his reaction.

Her face was bright red and streaked with tears, lips trembling as she looked up at Luke with wet eyes.

"L-Lou-" Miray cried shakily, feeling extremely ashamed. A great sob escaped her lips, and she covered her face with shaking hands. "I'm sorry." she apologized miserably, breaking down.

Ren frowned harder, looking at his best friend with sad eyes.

Why was she apologizing?

It maddened him.

"Apologizing won't save you." Emily glared at her, eyes narrowing hatefully.

"Shut up." Ren growled back.

"Ren!" Steven called disapprovingly. He walked to his brother and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Calm down." he said gently, rubbing his shoulder and pulling him closer to his chest.

Ren tried to pull away - obviously still upset - but Steven pulled him back against his chest, his hand caressing his hair soothingly. "It's okay, just calm down." he repeated softly.

"Rei." Luke called, stepping forward hesitantly.

Miray shook her head and stepped behind Kaiden, tears streaming down her face as her fingers curled into the fabric of Kaiden's shirt.
