New start

"Meredith that was the presidential neurosurgeon department and they want me to go and run it but it includes moving to DC" I said cautious
"How long?" she asked
"A year because their head had important brain surgery and can't go back to work for a year so when he comes back we come back here what do you say?"
"So it'll include a new start?"
"Yea"
"So Mr Sheperd we are moving to DC" she said happily about it
"So your wanting to go"
"Of course Derek I love you an I go where you go and you go where I go so let's go have a new start" she said sitting down
"Oh my god I love you so much" I said sitting down and putting my hand on her thigh
"Well you should because I'm doing something amazing for us" she said cuddling up to me
"Mr and Mrs Dr Sheperd head of neurosurgery and head of general surgery" I said surprising her
"Wait what?"
"The heads wife was head of general and she is taking a break to look after her husband so I suggested your name so when he comes back she comes back so then we'll come back here"
"Are you serious I'm going to be head of department but who'll stay here"
"Amy and Owen will move in here when we go I've already asked them and they said yes"
"Well then let's have a new start but when do we leave?"
"Next Friday we announce our leave tomorrow"
We embraced in a hug and I felt like we were doing something right.
THE NEXT DAY
we were walking to the board room hand in hand to tell them the news. After the 3 hour meeting Owen asked something that made me happy "so does anyone have something to say"
"Well me and Meredith are sort of leaving for a year" I said standing up
"Wait what?" Arizona asked
"Well me and Meredith were asked to be the head of neuro and general in the presidential project for a year"
"Well you can still be a member of the board and we'll video call for the meetings an I wish you well" Owen said shaking my hand.
LAST DAY IN SEATTLE
We were at the hospital to say goodbye to everyone and Meredith got really emotional but both happy and sad
"Derek I'm really gonna miss this place" she said crying
"Yea I know I'm gonna miss this place too" I said hugging her
"Lets go" she said getting into the car and waving all the people off while I drove away.
