y/n opened the doors to the library that she used to love to spend her childhood in. she had read all the books in it yet she has never read of a demon slayer mark. her guess would be that her mother had hid it away to not allow the girl to have any information about it. mahogany bookshelves with books clattered. dust had already been building up since it had been a while since y/n had entered the library.

"tsuki, shiro."
y/n called out the two animals.

i'm here y/n!
shiro meowed at her while tsuki flew by to her shoulder.

"could you help me search the library on books related to demon slaying."
y/n asked the two who set off to work without complaint. the two animals were in fact, really smart. they could recognise words, shiro however couldn't translate the words into human words nevertheless, he understands them.

y/n got to work, searching for boxes that stores the hidden books away. shiro and tsuki looked around the shelves for the needed books and informed y/n whenever they found one related to it. shiro tiptoed around his way to fit through the narrow space while tsuki hopped and flew from an end to another.

the girl found a few books related to demon slaying but had struck gold when she opened a dusty box, solely filled with breathing techniques and records of the past. sitting down on the wooden flooring, y/n looked through the scripts.

when acquired with the demon slayer mark,
the individual would not be able to live over the age of 25.

holding in a gasp, y/n tried to search through the records to find any traces of a person that managed to outlive that statement. her hands holding onto a piece of paper that had the old scripture on it. she had never seen the writing before and would hence need to dive deeper on the languages.

"shiro, tsuki."
y/n called her companions. the two stopped their searching and made their way to y/n who was surrounded by a sea of different scriptures.

"search for books that have these letters."
y/n showed the two with the unique letters. shiro and tsuki gawked at the odd letters and did as they were told.

soon after, shiro nudged y/n, indicating that he had found something.

i found a book.
shiro led the way and brought y/n to a far end of the library and poked its nose on a book that looked aged. cautiously, y/n brought the book out of the shelf and looked at the cover page. it had similar letters. giving shiro a head pat, y/n thanked the cat.

"tsuki, inform kagaya that i have found books related to the subject and request permission to visit the ubuyashiki estate tomorrow in the morning."
tsuki nodded and flew to deliver her master's message.

y/n tidied up all the books and placed them in a stack. bringing the heavy books out to the living room, y/n panted a little before splitting them into smaller stacks so that she could carry them. sweat trickled down her forehead. she was exhausted.

curse this weak body of mine...
y/n thought to herself bitterly.

"CAW! message from oyakata-sama! permission granted! permission granted! the stone pillar is coming to escort in daylight!"
tsuki repeated her message and perched herself on y/n's shoulders.

y/n thanked the crow for her hard work as she rested her feeble body before taking a shower. her body wasn't used to carrying heavy items nor was it used to physical activities. when walking up the mountain that she travels to get to her home, it was a daunting task that she puts a brave front for it.
