y/n concentrated on the sewing process, slowly treading the fabric with the sewing needle. giyu watched the girl as she skilfully patched up the tear. gratitude filled him as the girl checked the haori for any other damages. her actions were swift and in less than 10 minutes, his haori was fixed.

handing it over to him, the curious girl asked,
"giyu, does this haori hold meaning to you?"

the water pillar was surprised at her question but kept his stoic face on. he didn't want to reveal his sob story but he couldn't lie to her either. she was a higher-up. the man nodded instead. the air in the room becoming still.

y/n caught the atmosphere and tried to lighten it up.
"it's alright it you're uncomfortable to share. i'm just curious, please ignore my question."

keeping her sewing kit, she sat beside giyu again. the man had made his decision then.

"the red fabric was from my sister who saved me from a demon when i was young."
giyu gripped the hem of the red part of his haori. y/n's eyes widened at his answer. she didn't expect him to answer after sensing his hesitance.

"i was sent away and deemed mentally ill when i tried to explain what had happened. i ran away when they were transporting me."
his tone was bitter and held remorse in them. y/n held in a gasp as she listened.

"urokodaki saved me when i ran away."
urokodaki? the former water pillar? y/n asked herself.

"during the final selection, my... first friend, sabito. he died protecting me."
his hands are clenched. y/n thought. what do i reply? it's alright? it's definitely not alright you idiot! what i do say?...

gently, y/n put her hands above giyu's. her touched softened his death grip.

"if you clench your hands too hard, your palm will get hurt."
giyu felt as if time had just stop. unknowingly, his grip softened and his shoulders had let go of its tension.

"i'm sure that sabito-san and your sister are watching over you now."
her voice was like a song to him, alluring and enchanting him to believe her words. the water pillar had never once trusted his ability in being a water pillar. in the back of his mind, he knew that sabito was a better candidate than he was. he should have been the one dead, not sabito.

yet tomioka giyu was unable to voice out his thoughts.

but y/n had managed to catch on.

she knew about sabito. he was a promising candidate from the final selection but unfortunately did not survive the long run in the battle against the powerful demon that urokodaki had captured.

l/n y/n was there. she was there to return the clothing and belongings of sabito to his friend, tomioka giyu.

it was her first mission given by her mother, to send out kasugai crows to monitor the area and to relay it back to the head quarters. she was there to return all the belongings to those who were deceased to their families with the kakushis.

"you're deserving to be a pillar, giyu. don't doubt yourself."
how does she— giyu's thoughts was cut off when he felt a warm hand, caressing his hair.

the water pillar went stiff at the contact. i can't move it away... why? he thought, y/n retracted her hand and her face was flushed.

i... just head patted him! this is embarrassing! y/n why did you do that?!

"i'm very sorry! i didn't mean to- i mean i did... no wait i didn't mean to head--"
flustered, y/n hid herself by moving backwards.

"thank you... y/n."

sparkles filled around y/n as he heard the man call her by her first name. putting on his haori, giyu stood up and kanzaburo accompanied him.

"i will be heading off now. please stay safe."
giyu bowed at y/n who got up from her seat and showed the way.

"see you soon, giyu."
with a nod, giyu exited the l/n estate.

"so... lady y/n... do you like tomioka-sama?"
her crow suddenly appeared out of nowhere and started to tease her. immediately, y/n's face was heated at the question.

"t-training time!"
