"l-lady l/n! message from oyakata-sama, kaw!"
chizuya called. y/n had expected a letter back, but instead, it was a message. waiting for the crow to convey the message, y/n was actually about to head to the shower."oyakata-sama would like you to visit him tomorrow regarding the issue... the wind pillar, shinazugawa-sama to escort you at 11am."
y/n nodded and thanked the shy crow. praising her too for her bravery and for stepping out of her comfort zone.
a knock was heard on the door and y/n was preparing lunch for the crows so in the afternoon, when she comes back, it would be easier for her to feed them. she changed out of her apron and washed her hands before tending the door.opening it up, she was faced with lavender eyes with long stretches of scars on his face. with a small smile, y/n greeted the strong wind pillar. she knew that he had a bad temper and hence didn't want to get on his bad side.
sanemi didn't expect her to have this flowery aura around her when she had greeted him. bowing down as a form of respect since y/n was a higher-up, sanemi greeted her. the man couldn't comprehend his inner thoughts because of the similarities y/n had held with a friend of his.
his deceased comrade, the former flower pillar.
there were striking similarities the crow trainer had with kanae. he knew it from the start. when he saw her at the pillar meeting a few days ago. the smile that she showed and put up was exactly the same as the ones kanae would show him. not wanting to interact with her, he stayed in a distance and observed her interactions with the other hashiras. it was evident to him that he shouldn't get close with y/n.
it would only bring him dreadful memories.
with a tick mark on his head, the two descended the mountain. y/n wanted to hold a conversation with the wind pillar but it was hard for her to do so since sanemi seemed to show no signs of wanting to interact with her. with a soft sigh, y/n opted to not talk to him.
the atmosphere was tense. as if something had been brewing for a prolonged period of time. y/n knew that it was odd. but she decided to not question it. her mind was dwelling on the upper moon case. her heart went out to the deceased crows that sacrificed their lives to patrol. she felt like a horrible trainer and keeper.
she knew that the crow numbers were limited and that she only sent 3 crows in one area. the first three crows she had sent to patrol at asakusa, didn't return.
y/n knew that. she proceeded to send more crows to investigate the area.
none of them returned.
until yin did.
if only she had reported it earlier, maybe she could have saved the innocent lives of the crows.
unknowingly, y/n stepped onto a fallen branch whilst in deep thought. a slip was all she needed to lose balance.letting out an incoherent sound, she tried to grab anything that was available to support her fall. the wind pillar's ear perked up movement and as he looked at y/n, she was falling.
instantaneously, he brought his scarred hands out and held onto her arm to support her from falling. upon contact, y/n's eyes widened at his saving. she didn't expect him to save her despite him being her escort. balancing herself and heaving out a sigh of relief, sanemi stopped in his tracks to wait for the girl.
"thank you, shinazugawa-san. my apologies for being so clumsy."
y/n thanked and apologies. sanemi only looked away and grunted."watch your steps."
he replied before walking down the pathway. y/n followed behind closely.soon after, they reached the ubayashiki estate.
"hinaki! nichika!"
y/n greeted two of the quintruplets who were stationed to greet y/n. y/n bend down to embrace the two in a warm hug. the two girls were flustered at her actions but enjoyed the hug anyways.sanemi saw a very splitting image of the girl in front of her and his deceased friend.
"thank you shinazugawa-san for taking the time to escort me! you can come over any time. i can prepare your favourite food."
y/n gave the said man a bright smile then a wave of realisation stuck her.what's shinazugawa-san's favourite food?
"that being said... what's your favourite food?"
she asked genuinely.sanemi looked away, contemplating whether to reveal the information to her. she is a higher-up. the man thought before answering. with heat reluctantly rising up his cheeks,
"ohagi."
clapping her hands, stars seemed to have infiltrated her eyes since she knew how to make ohagi. y/n was really good at cooking and baking really, she just didn't really flaunt that skill out loud.
"i'll prepare ohagis the next time then."
with a wave, y/n bid goodbyes with the wind pillar who bowed respectfully and walked away to train.
