it's happening...

y/n thought to herself. a single sweat rolled down her forehead as tsuki soared in the dark sky to convey the disastrous message.

the final selection of the crows had just ended. it had been a day since y/n had seen the members of the ubuyashiki estate.

yesterday was the last day she could see kagaya and amane.

all crows perched themselves on their respective places. y/n had taken a count on the number.

she started off with 73 crows.

there were only 66 left.

7 lone crows were missing.

anxiousness crept in y/n's veins. she didn't like it. she wanted her crows to return safely. they were all ready for the test and yet why were some of them missing? scenarios flooded her mind on the possible situations her crows could have encountered.

"please check if you buddies are here."
y/n instructed, fiddling with her fingers as she counted the figures again. there was still 7 missing.

"KAW! LADY L/N... ISSEI IS MISSING!"
one of the crows had squawked out in desperation. it looked around frantically, in search for its partner.

a pit of guilt brewed in y/n. in a slow nod, y/n listened as more crows reported on their missing partners. y/n gulped and waited.

30 long minutes had passed and yet nothing.

no crows returned.

all 7 crows were deemed deceased.

y/n inhaled with a sharp breath as she prepared herself mentally.

"you are now members of the demon slayer corps. your first and final mission will be one of great danger. your lives would be at stake. as i am speaking currently. the demon slayers are putting their own lives on the line for the clash with muzan is happening."

y/n took in a shaky breath. she kept her tears at bay to not seem weak in front of her crows. they were the ones who would be putting their lives on the line to convey vital pieces of messages and updates.

"please head to the new head, kiriya ubuyashiki and support him with his endeavours. tsuki please lead them. i wish you all the best my dear crows. i will be awaiting for your presence after this war... let us all enjoy a special meal after all of this."

y/n gave a gentle smile, she couldn't hold it in. a stream of tear ran down her right cheeks as she blinked. the crows tried to keep their tears away too but to no avail. a resounding squawks of 'thank you' and 'goodbye' was heard.

y/n had seen her crows grow. some of them as small as they were chicks. it was moving all too fast. they were all emotional. y/n had spent her whole life with these crows. nurturing and watching them develop, y/n felt a connection with them. she dedicated her whole life since young to train them. the crows would gossip with y/n, often times they would play with one another.

it could be their last time seeing each other.

"BYE-BYE LADY Y/N! KAW!"

"SEE YOU LADY Y/N!"

"GOODBYE LADY Y/N! THANK YOU!"

y/n waved as they took off into the sky, in the direction of the newest head of the estate.

"SEE YOU MAMA!"
tsuki screamed at the top of her lungs as she led the crows into the dangerous final battle.

"I LOVE YOU!!"
the female crow continued as her voice drifted as the distance got bigger.

"i love you too tsuki. come back safe."
y/n whispered as beads of tears fell onto the ground. a sleepy cat had just woke up due to the commotion with a trail of confused thoughts.

shiro leapt into y/n's hands. the girl hugging shiro easily.

"mama what's happening?"
shiro meowed in a sleepy voice. he then purred when y/n stroked the spot in between his ears and gave a small kiss on his snout.

"the final battle is happening. let's wait for all of them to come home yeah?"
y/n gave another kiss on shiro. the white cat let out another long purr in return.

y/n knew that it was the impossible for everyone to come out of the battle alive and she could only pray for the safety for her friends. life is a precious jewel that needed to be protected. she knew that they were all strong. they had been training to gain the demon slayer mark to defeat the upper moon and muzan. the hashiras had dedicated their time, effort and sweat for this final moment.

yet y/n was afraid. the question 'then what?' repeated in her head.

a person would not be able to live after 25 after attaining the demon slayer mark. the only known exception was tsugikuni yoriichi.

her mind drifted to the water pillar that she had grown fond of. the man of not many words but made y/n feel safe and at home. whenever he had visited the crow trainer, y/n could feel her day getting better. her hand had unknowingly went to the hair pin he had gifted.

it then wandered to her best friend, mitsuri. she wanted to see a happy ending with her crush, iguro obanai. the two women had made plans in the future where y/n could envision herself in mitsuri's wedding, cheering her on.

lastly it stopped at her little brother figure, tokito muichiro. though the time spent between them was short, it was still there. precious memories were made that no golden or silver coins could replace. it was dear to y/n. the first time he had called her 'y/n-nee', y/n heart had practically melted.

"please come back safe..."
y/n prayed. she couldn't anything much. her body was weak in return for her unique powers of communicating with animals. y/n made her way to her mother's altar. offering a plate of her favourite sweets during midnight, y/n bowed down.

"mother please watch over my friends and my crows."
in a soft voice, y/n hoped to see her friends alive and well when the sun rise.
