"nii-san! are you ready to meet the dogs! i wonder what breed the shelter will have..."
the younger kamado exclaimed with anticipation. the family would be going to an animal shelter to adopt a dog. the youngest in the family was beyond excited at the news.

the older sibling, kamado kanata was thrilled but his facial expression says otherwise. he, in fact, couldn't wait to meet the furballs in the shelter.

L/N'S SANCTUARY.

the wide sign was welcoming. it was painted in a beige colour. the interior of the shelter was warm and cozy. there was not a single trace of odour in the sanctuary and acts as a shelter for the animals there. the walls were painted in a pastel yellow with many pictures framed.

founded by y/n's grandmother, it was home to dogs, cats, birds, and little rodents. they were all either strays or surrounded by individuals and families with reasons. currently owned by y/n who pursued a degree in veterinary science, y/n followed in her mother's footsteps.

her undying love and connection with animals paved the way for her to revamp the sanctuary which became a shelter for animals and a therapeutic experience for individuals.

a lady stood at the reception, waiting for the family to approach her.

as the kamado family finally approached the lady, they were greeted with nothing but warmth and welcome.

"hi! welcome to l/n's sanctuary. are you looking to adopt or a petting session?"
the lady then introduced herself and brought up a sheet of paper that had details on the petting session.

"hi! we're here to adopt a dog."
sumihiko replied for the family with a smile. kanata looked around in curiosity, drifting away from the conversation.

"alright! i'll inform my co-worker and she'll bring you to the dogs. are there any preferences?"
the lady then picked up her phone to ring the co-worker that she mentioned.

the kamado family shook their head in sync.

"hi! i'm l/n y/n, i'll bring you to the dogs. they're currently in their playtime so it's quite rowdy in the yard."
y/n led the family to the yard where a total of 14 dogs were housed.

there were different breeds of dogs, ranging from akitas to dachshunds. it was truly a magnificent sight. a white pomeranian was currently playing tug-of-war with a poodle while a fluffy havanese was lying and chilling on a blue beanbag. there was much barking and sounds of bells rattling. what made the scene extra cute was the little nametags on their collar.

some dogs inched closer to them but not close enough to hump the little barricade that separated the two.

"wahh! they're so cute!"
it was a normal first reaction and not much of a surprise for y/n when she heard the youngest child.

"please refrain from petting or approaching them first-hand. if any dogs interest you, do inform me so i can set up an interaction space for you. the dogs with the red collars are not up for adoption."
the family nodded and kept their distance. they observed from a distance.

"i like that one there."
kanata pointed at the shih tzu that was chilling with the havanese on the beanbag.

"i like that one."
sumihiko then pointed at the poodle who was currently running in circles with a chihuahua.

the dogs' personalities were all unique and the two siblings were drawn to different ones.

"considering how the two of you are still schooling and both of us can't run that much, i'm leaning more towards kanata's choice."
the father of the kamado family said. his words means the final decision. sumihiko didn't have much to retaliate. he took another look at the poodle and then nodded in agreement.

"could we meet the shih tzu on the blue beanbag?"
the mother said, y/n nodded and greeted the dogs enthusiastically. giving them lots of kisses and pets before finally reaching her destination-- the beanbag.

"hi lemon, i'm going to pick you up now alright?"
y/n said softly, patting her gently.

the dog didn't reply and allowed her to do so.

"this is lemon, she's quite the oldie, 11 years old now. been in this shelter for about 5 months now. her previous owners unfortunately passed away due to old age and was surrendered to us."
sumihiko held in a gasp. y/n then placed the shih tzu on the ground for her to sniff the newcomers.

"she has an ear issue. can't hear much in her left ear. operation wasn't an option due to her age. it's not detrimental to her health in any way."
the kamado family took in the information. sumihiko squatted down to give lemon a little pat. his shown affection made her drawn to him. y/n smiled at the two. it was an adorable sight.

"mom... can we have her? i think she likes me and i like her a lot."
sumihiko then sat down on the ground where lemon hopped onto his lap with her belly exposed.

"we'll have her."

suddenly, barks filled the yard. really loud, excited barks.

someone was here.

the door then opened to reveal a tired man in a tracksuit. his hair was tied into a low ponytail. blue eyes that matched his tracksuit and a small smile was on his face as his eyes finally fell onto his lovely wife.

the unknown man then made his way to the yard to greet all the dogs that were swarming him around. he knew better than to disturb his wife who was on an important task.

"nii-san, isn't that tomioka-sensei?..."
y/n's head tilt at sumihiko's words. they know giyu?...

"yeah. i'm quite sure that is."
kanata replied. the two were surprised to see their PE teacher in the sanctuary.

"alright! i'll get ready the papers. you would have to pay a fee of 4000¥ and i'll brief through on the necessities."

soon after, lemon found her forever home.

"welcome home dear."
y/n finally greeted her husband who happened to also be her high school sweetheart.

the workers in the sanctuary were now off work and it was just them in their little animal kingdom. the dogs were off goofing around in the yard while some were indoors to enjoy the airconditioning. the cats were asleep and lazing around as always.

"how was work?"
giyu grunted and pulled y/n into a needy hug.

"those two kids are my students in school."
the man replied, burrowing his head into the crook of y/n's neck. his body less tensed as it completely melted in y/n's hold. he was a sucker for his wife despite the denial. although it was odd to see his students in his wife's workplace/ animal sanctuary, giyu ignored them.

"you big baby, stop putting your whole weight on me or i'm going to fall."

"i'll catch you."

"that's not how it works."
y/n flicked the back of his head with her index finger.

just then, a little white cat made his merry way to the lovers.

10 years later and shiro was happier than ever.

"hi dearie, you want cuddles. oh you're a jealous bean are you."
y/n smiled as she untangled herself from her husband and kissed her cat on the snout.

100 years later, the love y/n had for her cat only grew.

100 years later, y/n and giyu found each other again.

100 years later, there was stability and peace.
