When Blythe was a kid, she remembered hating couples. She hated the way they loved each other right in front of strangers, and she hated the way that they had no shame about it. Why she was that way? She would never truly know. Maybe it's the fact that she didn't ever have parents that even tried to pretend to be in love so it was completely out of the norm for Blythe, or maybe she was just jealous that they had a significant other who cherished them for who they are.
But now, as she stood in the kitchen, with Maddox stood behind her, his head resting on top of her own with his arms around her waist as he watched her bake a cake, she suddenly understood why all the other couples did it.
It was because they were in love.
It felt normal to have him hugging her from behind like that, as if Blythe would feel empty if she didn't have him there, and that scared Blythe. She could feel herself starting to depend on the other three as if they were her other half, and even though Blythe was no longer apart of that work environment there were still problems that could potentially arise just from her working there alone, plus there was their jobs too. The main point was, that anything could happen at any time and there was nothing that could change the outcome and Blythe was worried that, even if she didn't have one of them around, she would forget how to live.
Blythe enjoyed this small moment of happiness and basked in the warmth of Maddox's arms while she was doing a very poor job at baking a vanilla cake. "I think you forgot an ingredient." Maddox picked up the box and reread what was needed while also recalling what Blythe had already put in. The cake wasn't liquid enough for Blythe to pour it and you could still see chunks of flour. "Did you add the eggs?"
"The eggs!" She ducked underneath his arms and escaped from his hold to rush over to the cupboard and grab two eggs. She returned and instantly placed herself back in the original position as she forced Maddox's arms back around herself.
"You're awfully cuddly today." He mumbled.
"I am? You started it!" She responded while cracking the egg on the side of the kitchen counter and letting the egg fall into the cake with a little bit of shell following it. "You think they'll notice?" She asked while pointing to the shell.
"They won't, but I will. Get that out." He dipped his finger into the yolk and scooped out the shell. From behind Blythe, Maddox was smirking. Instead of washing the egg of his finger he instead rubbed it on Blythe's cheek.
"That's nasty." She whined while rubbing her cheek to remove the egg. "Don't make me pour this entire bowl on your head." She threatened. She wouldn't actually waste her beloved cake like that but Maddox didn't have to know that.
"You wouldn't even be able to reach my head." He teased as he stood to his full height to make a point.
"You're acting like the bench isn't right in front of me. If I have to stand on it, then I will." She hoisted herself up onto the bench and stood all the way up making herself a lot taller than Maddox now. "See, now who's short?"
"Hop down before you fall." Radley said as he entered the kitchen. "What are you making?" He peered into the bowl and frowned at the partially mixed cake mix, with egg drowning the top of it. "Cake?" He picked up the box and read the instructions. "I think you're supposed to mix that." He deadpanned before walking out of the kitchen again.
"That deserves extra shell." Blythe said while hopping off the bench. "Obviously I wasn't finish." She huffed while grabbing the spoon and aggressively mixing the cake. "My arm hurts, you take over." Blythe whined as she stopped mixing and let Maddox finish the rest.
"I think I deserve half the credit now." Maddox stopped mixing when he believed it was finished and then Blythe poured the cake mix into the oven. "Did you preheat the oven?"
"I thought you were going to."
"I wasn't even here when you started." He chuckled as he walked over to the over and flipped it to the correct temperature.
"I know. I summoned you in my head to preheat it. You're not very good at your job." Blythe joked.
Maddox rolled his eyes. "Sorry, ma'am. I should have known as soon as I walked in that I was supposed to preheat the oven. My fault." He got down on his knees and bowed at Blythe's feet before coming back up and picking Blythe up so she was sitting on the bench. "What are you doing later?" He asked.
"Nothing... why?" She asked suspiciously.
"I can't stop thinking about what Radley told me you and him got up to after class." There was no shame in his voice as he spoke with confidence.
"Oh!" Blythe perked up and blushed faintly. "He told you?" She asked. "Like full detail?" She added shyly.
"I hope you don't mind. I was a bit curious." He caressed her cheek with his fingers as he attempted to keep her attention on him.
"I don't mind that he told you. I mean, it's bound to happen between all of us eventually. Why be secretive about it?" She shrugged.
"That's good to hear, because I was kind of hoping you could share some of your talent with yours truly." He smirked while flashing his pearly whites.
"Good try, buddy. Maybe another time."
"Buddy? Ouch. I'll try again tomorrow."
"You do that."

Both Ashton and Radley took a bite of the cake and while Radley was good at hiding his feelings, Ashton wasn't. The visible grimace of Ashton's face was enough to prove a point. "What do you think?" Blythe asked.
"It's good." Radley lied straight through his teeth.
"What he said." Ashton agreed.
Blythe sighed. "Okay, now what do you really think?" Ashton's shoulders slumped as he placed the cupcake down and hesitantly swallowed the foul tasting dessert. "It's bad." He said with no shame.
"That would be mr 'I deserve half the credits' fault." Blythe said while glaring at Maddox.
He exaggerated a gasp as he turned to Blythe. "Me? You forgot the eggs and to preheat the oven and you said you were adding extra egg shells in it and that's not even apart of the ingredients." He exclaimed.
"Whatever, you kept distracting me, so it's your fault." She grabbed a cake and held it out to Maddox. "Try it." She demanded.
"No way. Did you see Ash? He looks like you've poisoned him. You try it." He crossed his arms over his shoulder.
"I made it, I already know it's perfect. So, you try it."
"So, It is your fault then, since you made it."
"Are you sassing me, right now?" Blythe asked with her head tilted.
"That's exactly what I'm doing." He sassed.
"Okay, you two stop. Maddox's part of the baking tastes awful. Blythe, you did a good job." Radley interrupted.
"Thanks, Rad-"
"Your only saying that because she sucked you off."
"That's it."
(This wasn't how the chapter was supposed to go, but enjoy this filler)
