I'm sitting out on the balcony when I sense the feeling of someone standing behind me.
"I know you have the daggers." Nik says
He must've turned the house upside down.
Clearly he didn't check the woods.
I don't say anything. There's no point.
"Give them to me."
I don't move.
I stashed them under a fallen log.
If he daggers everyone, we stand no chance against Mikael. Nik has to see that. Somehow.
"Promise me you won't use them on your siblings." I say
"I won't tell you again."I stand up and turn to face him.
"Nik say I give them to you and then what? You dagger each of your siblings out of revenge and take Mikael out on your own?" I demand
"I've killed him once already." He says
"Nik that's a suicide mission and you know it."
"Get my daggers."
"Promise me."He glares at me but I don't back down.
We can't afford to have Nik locking up his siblings and taking on Mikael by himself.
He wouldn't stand a chance.
From what I've heard, Mikael is not an enemy you want, especially if your Nik.
Mikael's had his sights on Nik, wanting to wipe out the step son he believed was a disgrace, a monster. A mistake. Nik was the result of his mother's affair with a wolf. When Mikael had discovered this, he slaughtered the whole pack.
Nik turns and walks away.
Later in the night, I check to make sure that I'm not being watched and I sneak out into the woods. I make my way deep into the woods and approach the fallen tree where I'd stashed the daggers. The silver gleams as it catches the moonlight. I look around me and seeing nobody, I shove them under my jacket and take off deeper into the woods.
It's better if I move them.
I glare around at the trees and find one with a deep hole at the top, a perfect spot for a squirrel to nest in. I jump up onto one of the tree limbs and climb up. As quietly and as quickly as I can, I stash the daggers and cover them up as best I can with the leaves that are already inside. I check to make sure it's not noticeable then jump down and check again.
Even with my perfect night vision, I can't spot the daggers and I smile to myself.
"Perfect." I say
I look out into the sky. The sun will start rising in a few hours. I have plenty of time to hunt and enjoy some time to myself before I have to head back. So I shed my clothes, crouch down and feel the familiar sensations of turning that used to cause me to scream out in pain. Now it's more of a nuisance. I've turned so many times since the first that it happens more quickly and without any pain.
I take off deeper into the woods.
The sun is just barely crusting over the horizon as I walk back from the woods, exhausted and in human form. I'm glad I had those few hours because it it took quite a while to catch anything. I don't see anyone as I walk into the house and I quietly make my way upstairs and fall asleep just as my head hits the pillow.
