Klaus's POV:

I stand in the study and focus on my current canvas. It's a mountain overlooking a dark blue lake. A thank you gift for Lorelei.

I hadn't seen her since I killed Mikael. I was going to search for her but Elijah suggested I give her some space. The past few days had been rough. I figured she'd come back by now.

I dip my brush lightly in the dark blue paint I had created. I brush over the lake lightly, creating currents and as I switch between colors, the canvas is brought to life. Plants and fish are scattered among the lake. I smile as I paint.

For the first few weeks that Lorelei had been with us, she was nervous. A new environment and possible enemies tend to do that.

Yet as time went by, she relaxed. This place became her home and she began to confide in me. She spoke about her dreams of traveling more and of the nightmares that plagued her every time her eyes closed.

I've grown fond of her.

My thoughts are interrupted when Rebekah opens the door.

"Nik I'm hungry. Care to grab a bite?" She asks
"In a moment. Have you seen Lorelei?" I ask
"I haven't. She didn't come back yet?"

I shake my head.

"It's been three days." I say
"What if she left?"
"She didn't."
"But what if she did?"

I sigh and put the brush down.

Did she leave?

Was watching me kill Mikael too much for her to handle?

I shake the thoughts from my head.

I took her in, protected her. She's one of our own.

Wherever she is, I have to find her.

Lorelei's POV:

I wake up chained to a tree by my ankle.

Awesome.

I look around and when their faces come into view, it's two people I'd never believed I'd see again. Or at least, hoped not to.

Kane and Will.

Two of Hector's top men until I'd had them banished. Kane is around 30 with a short mustache and beard, dark black hair and grey eyes. Impossible to mistake him.

Back when I was 14, he'd shown up drunk and tried to climb into my cot with me. I'd screamed, getting everyone's attention and Hector banished him. No harm would come to a child in his pack, unless of course it was by him. Will wasn't much better than Kane. Will abandoned the pack when Kane was banished.

"How great to see you guys again." I say sarcastically

Kane punches me hard in the face.

Pain shoots through me and blood trickles down my nose.

"Can't much relate." Kane snaps
"Awe still bitter I got you kicked out of Hector's boys club?" I ask
"You're lucky we need you alive. I wanted to cut your throat the second we got our hands on you." He growls
"Oh boys. Didn't you hear? I'm in the same boat as you are. Hector doesn't care about me."
"He'll take us back into the pack."

I roll my eyes.

"That's never going to happen. It's never happened. Once you're out, you're as good as dead to him. Remind me why he didn't just launch you off that cliff?"
"You mean the way he did your parents?" Will says with a sickening smirk
"Nice try. My parents died because they were sick." I say

Will laughs as does Kane.

"Your parents were trying to abandon the pack. It was Will and I who discovered their plan. They rebelled against Hector but it didn't end as well for them as it did for you." Kane says
"You're a fucking liar." I hiss
"They confessed that they were going to sneak their darling little brat out. Then the other kids. Thus killing the ritual and giving a devastating blow to Hector."
"Seems like traitors run in your bloodline." Will says

Kane leans down and grabs a fistful of my hair, yanking it and forcing me to look at him.

"Hector was so grateful he let us do the honors. He lied to you to keep you from doing the same stupid act that got your parents killed."

My eyes glow.

"There she is." Will says

Kane kicks me hard in the side and I cry out.

"We need information." Will tells me

I cradle my injury and glare up at the two of them.

"I don't have any."

"We've been keeping an eye on you. We want to know how you got this." Will says and grabs my wrist, showing the moonlight ring

"Forget it." I snap

"We'll be welcomed back and Hector will have the strongest pack in the world. Wolves who can change at will." Kane says

"Rot in hell." I hiss

Kane punches me hard and everything goes black.
