I sit out on the balcony reading a book it the comfort of the night. The sun has set and the street lights illuminate the night.

Whoops and cheers break my concentration and I let out a groan. I stare out into the street and see the group of Marcel's Night Walkers spreading out into the street. Those are the vampires without daylight rings. They are the most obnoxious bunch.

I can't go out to the bayou and be in peace with all this shit. Last thing I need is to get caught up in the vampire drama. Everyone's a bit tense these days. There are more vampires showing up than humans which is why lately I'd been sticking to hunting in the woods and using blood bags. Right now though, I crave warm blood.

I send a text to Hayley.

Hey girl want to go out?

Yeah I need a minute. Bayou tonight?
-H

You hear those assholes out there?
-L

Awe it's okay I'll protect you *wink*

I laugh a little at that. It's true, she's saved my ass quite a bit in the past few years since we'd met. When we met she was a werewolf, pregnant with Hope. Hours later, Hope was off with Rebekah and Hayley came back a hybrid.

I think back to one of our more wild nights.

Flashback:

Hayley and I were walking down the street when a couple of vampires showed up. They were hassling us to get out of their city. It was fairly calm until the idiot mentioned Hayley's baby. Hayley lashed out and bit him. I staked the other and by the time we got home, we were covered in blood.

Hayley had gone off to go shower and unfortunately I ran right into Elijah.

"Are you alright?" He asked
"Yeah just a little..misunderstanding." I said
"A misunderstanding?" He questioned, eyes skeptical

And of course, Nik walked in.

"What's going on?" He demanded
"Lorelei seems unwilling to answer that question." Elijah told him

I glance towards Hayley's room. Nik catches the movement and his eyes stare into mine, searching for answers.

"I know you want to protect the Little Wolf but you need to tell us." Nik said
"A dumb vampire mentioned the baby." I said

They share a look then Elijah heads over to Hayley's room without a word.

"We just went out to feed. That's all."

There's a knock at my door and Hayley pokes her head in. Shes got on a tan long sleeve and dark blue jeans and boots.

"You ready?" She asks
"Yeah."

Hayley and I corner off a man walking out of a restaurant alone. We follow him into the alley. Hayley speeds in front of him, cutting him off. I move from behind and sink my teeth into his neck. He starts to shout and I stop.

"Compel him please." I say

She steps closer and looks into his eyes.

"You will not make a sound. Understood?"

He nods and I sink my teeth back in. Hayley joins me and we listen intently to his heartbeat. Once it starts to slow a little, we stop. She holds him still while I force feed him my blood and he heals. Then I compel him to forget us and we take off.
