Lorelei wake up!" A voice says scaring me awake
Standing in front of my opened up tent is Jackie. She's got brown hair and eyes and little freckles. We've become friends in the past two weeks since we're both stuck on laundry duty with the other troublesome kids.
She wouldn't sneak over to see me for no reason. Nobody is allowed to be near anyone else's site for any reason.
Something happened.
Ideas run through my mind. Did we lose someone else by Hector's hands?
"What's going on?" I ask worriedly
"We have to go!" She says
"Why?"
"Kane is coming."
I grab a flashlight and we take off as quickly and as quietly as we can. I hope he's been drinking. Maybe he'll just go right to sleep.
I hear footsteps and we duck down in a large array of ferns. Kane is walking through.
My tent is open. He's gonna know.
As he gets closer, Jackie gets more worried. She moves closer to me and Kane stops as he hears the noise. Jackie opens her mouth to speak but I put a finger to my lips to signal to keep quiet. Kane keeps on moving and once he's gone, we let out a breath of relief.
I help Jackie up and thank her and we sneak off back to our tents.
