The first thing that I feel as I return to consciousness is cold air so I pull the covers up over my body. I know I'm all healed by now but that doesn't change the level of exhaustion I feel.

Kane and Will are dead, I'm certain of that. I only wish I had the pleasure of taking Kane out myself. A full circle kind of thing.

Oh well.

I suddenly come to the realization that I'm not the only one in this room. I lift my head up enough to see Nik sitting at the foot of the bed.

"Hey." I say
"Good morning love. How are you feeling?"
"Exhausted but I'm all healed."

It's silent for a few moments. It looks like he wants to say something but changes his mind and asks something else.

"What did they want from you?"

I lift up my hand showing him the moonlight ring. Its black stone glinting in the light.

"Moonlight rings aren't easy to come by." Nik says

I nod.

"I watched the witch who made mine and I can repeat every step and ingredient by memory. They wanted to use me to get rings so Hector would allow them back into the pack." I tell him

"And would he?"

" No. Hector would rather kill them and take the power for himself. He always dreamed of being the most powerful Alpha around. I can't imagine the damage he could do if he could turn at will."

I wonder if Nik's been sitting there all night, watching me to make sure I was okay after everything.

"Thank you."

He speaks so quietly I could've missed it.

"For what?" I ask, my voice soft and a little groggy

" Helping me put down my father. Few if any would go up against him and none would survive if they did it alone. Other than my siblings I've never had anyone risk their life for mine."

Because I care about you.

I smile up at him.

"I'd do it all over again."

He stands up to leave.

"Nik." I say

He turns back around.

"What is it?"
"You gave me the one thing I've never had."

He stares at me confused.

"A family."

He smiles and places his hand in mine and gives it a gentle squeeze.

"Rest love."

Once again, everything goes back as the pull of sleep drags me under.
