The moon has now fallen, and the bright sun shone through the closed curtain in room 107, small flashes of light shining on the floor and empty alcohol bottles. The only sounds in the room, aside from the outside noises, were soft breathing and the motel alarm buzzing.
The annoying noise faintly registered in Megan's ears, and an irritated groan escaped as she tried to get the alarm to go off. While she had somewhat of a good night's sleep, the nightmare made it difficult to get back to sleep, as she wanted to.
Once her fingers managed to hit the alarm button, she felt the relief of quiet, "Five more minutes..." she mumbled to herself as she drifted back to sleep. A moment later, she felt her phone vibrating on the nightstand, slowly waking her up. She lifts the phone to see a message, opening her phone to see who it was. It was from Alice that a smile formed on Megan's lips.
Alice: I hope everything with you and Leon goes well. I'm here for you. :)
The message brought warmth and peace. Megan couldn't ask for a better friend than Alice who was always there for her when she needed to vent. The peace didn't last very long, however, she glanced over to see the clock that woke her up briefly.
12:48pm
"Oh shit." She quickly pulled back the covers and nudged Leon, "Leon, wake up. We overslept. We gotta go, now." However, Leon weakly swats her hand away, letting out a tired groan, "Nngh... five more minutes..."
"Did you not hear me? I said we overslept. We are late. Now come on we have to get a move on," she nudged him a bit harder before she got out of bed, "Fuck." As she was quickly putting on her shoes and heading straight to the bathroom to fix herself, Leon didn't bother to make an effort to get up.
She poked her head out to see him remaining on the bed, with a huff she grabbed the small towel and soaked it in cold water. She aimed and struck Leon on the face, the cold water jolting him awake.
"Ack! It's cold!"
"Oh good, you're finally up sleeping beauty. Not yet your ass up and moving." She goes back into the bathroom to at least fix her hair.
"Take it easy, my head is throbbing..." he whined, his head spinning from the amount of alcohol he consumed in one night, "Besides being late by a couple of minutes isn't that bad."
"Oh sure, why not?" She shrugged, "A couple of minutes sure, but not a couple of hours!"
Leon's eyes widen at her words, "A couple of- What do you mean?" He glanced over at the clock and quickly held it closer to inspection, "Holy shit I'm late." His head then pounded by the sudden realization that his hangover wasn't helping him at all.
"Good realization detective, now get up we gotta go."
He got out of bed and started to get ready, as Megan got out of the bathroom he went in feeling a bit nauseous, "Shit I drank too much..."
"Oh crap, your hangover... uh... we can grab a quick bite and I'll get you some pain killers at a gas station." No answer was needed after she heard him retching behind the bathroom door. "I'll wait for you in the jeep." Grabbing his keys and heading outside, to check out of the motel.
After a few minutes, Leon came out of the motel room feeling slightly better but still uneasy. He glanced up to see Megan already in the driver's seat of his jeep and the engine already on, "Wait, you're driving?"
She had to hold back a sarcastic eye roll to Leon's stupid question, "Obviously I am, you are not in the position to drive. Now get in so we can at least try to make it. And don't worry about checking out, I already got it covered."
