Leon couldn't help but smile at the wonderful news, "That's amazing Megan. When do you start?"
"They want me to start on the 29th of September. I only have a few days left and I can hardly keep my excitement steady." She set the letter down and glanced at her father's room, "I want to wake dad up and tell him about the good news, but I don't want to bother him. I'm sure he wants to rest."
Leon nods as he takes another bite of his eggs, "I'm sure when he hears about this, he'll be over the moon for you. You have come this far and now... you're getting your dream job like you wanted."
"I know," she let out a sigh of relief, "I must be dreaming..." she closed her eyes to let in this moment, but it was cut short by the sudden pinch, "Ow!"
She opened her eyes to see Leon gently pinching her arm, "What?" He chuckled, "Had to make sure you weren't dreaming."
She gently smacked his head as she sat down at the table to eat, "I have to tell Alice, she is gonna be so excited to hear the news. And since I still have her number..." she starts texting on her flip phone, "I'm asking if she's free today for it since she's doing college. Oh, I hope she's free, this is so exciting." She lifts her head and turns to Leon, "Are you staying home or are you planning to go somewhere?"
He gently shrugs, "Not sure, honestly. I was thinking about... heading out, clear my head about Raccoon City. Maybe call Melody..."
Megan can hear the slight hesitation in his tone at the last sentence, she puts her phone down and walks over to him, "Are you two okay? You can tell me if you two have problems."
Seeing the small smile of reassurance on her face made Leon feel a bit more complex about his feelings. How could he tell her that he wanted to know if those feelings for her were just a phase or maybe a moment of weakness? He did feel something for her, but won't that ruin something they already have? Thinking of something to say, he sighed, "What if I'm making the wrong decision?"
"On what?"
Leon's fist gently clenched, "Of being with Melody" was what he almost said but didn't. He glanced away, "On Raccoon City... I know Dad told me to stay put and I'm trying here, but what if it's a sign to look somewhere else? Am I wasting my time trying to get to somewhere I know that'll end in tragedy?"
Megan hummed a bit as she started to think of the right words to say, "Well, if that's how you really feel then that's up to you. I won't force you to stop and look somewhere else, but I noticed how much you wanted to go there. With all its crime rates and mysterious deaths, you wanted to help others like how my Dad helped you..."
She placed her hand on top of his, causing him to look up as she continued, "You are passionate about wanting to be a cop, that I know for a fact. If you want to go to Raccoon City, despite what's happening, then I'm here to support you. No matter what happens, I'll always be here, even if we are miles apart."
Those words, Leon can't help but feel his heart beating more than ever. The way her hand was on his, the soft look in her eyes as she was comforting him. It just made it harder for Leon to keep those feelings down. He had to hold himself back from confessing to her then and now, before he could say anything her phone buzzed.
She took her eyes off him and went to grab her phone, her hands leaving his. The warmth slipping away, he didn't even realize that he was about to reach for hers when he saw her looking at her phone. She smiled, "Alice said she's free, that I can head over to her house. I'd better let Dad know so he won't worry about where I am."
She made her way over to her father's room as Leon glanced at his outstretched hand. Pulling it back, he had to remind himself that maybe it wasn't time for him to confess, or that there would ever be a chance to. After all, she seems to be doing fine without him. If he leaves, she has her father back home, her best friend Alice, and the whole MPD to work in, which can help her.
