"Yup, I pulled a few strings and I got you to in! Isn't that great?"
Leon hugged his Dad tightly, "No way Dad, thank you so much for doing this for me. I can't believe it."
Megan felt a sharp pain in her chest, she looked down at her acceptance letter and felt like she was outshined once again. Leon smiled brightly at the news, "Isn't this great Megan? Now we can go to the same academy... together..."
He turned over to see Megan stunned with disbelief, her hands clenching the letter tightly causing it to be all scrunched up. He starts to feel like a sudden deja vu hit him, he could see the pain in her eyes as she struggled to hold back her disappointment.
Their father took notice of Megan's sudden change in behavior, "What's wrong Megan? Aren't you excited for Leon to be going to our dream school?"
"That's not fair..." she muttered.
"What was that Megan?"
"That's. Not. Fair!" She repeated.
"What do you mean it's not fair, I had to do a lot of string-pulling to get Leon into that academy."
"That's exactly my point. You helped him, while I worked so hard to get into that academy. I worked my way to reach that goal while you gave him a shortcut."
"Megan, calm down. I know that your letter will be here soon, in the meantime let's be happy for Leon."
"You're not listening. I wanted to show you that I got the letter and they accepted me. I have the literal proof that all my hard work paid off," She then showed him the acceptance letter.
"Oh is that right? That's wonderful, you two can go together now that you both are going. Why don't we celebrate and go out to eat?"
He walks past her to head over to his room to change into something more comfortable, Leon looks over at Megan who is not only devastated but infuriated by how much praise she didn't receive from him. Not liking how things turned out she faces her father, "I'm not going to celebrate."
Her father turns to her, "Why not?"
"Because I refuse to celebrate this."
"Don't tell me that you're not happy that the two of you are going to LETI together."
"That's not it, you don't know how much I wanted to show you that this one time. One time, I accomplished something that I thought would make you proud of me. But instead... I get shunned for Leon's "free ticket to the academy" because you helped him! Why couldn't you do that to me!? You knew that I wanted to go there too so why just him!"
"Megan, do not raise your voice at me. You aren't a child anymore, you're a grown woman and can do things on your own. Besides you never really showed that you needed my help and I didn't necessarily shun you. I am proud of you for getting into that school."
"Sure doesn't sound nor feel like it."
"Megan, you proved that you were capable of doing this, with Leon it's different."
"Oh, it's always about Leon! Leon this and Leon that, but what about me? Your only daughter! You always favored Leon instead of me and it's such bullshit!"
"Watch that mouth of yours, Megan, you don't speak to me like that. I am your father."
"And what a father you turned out to be, I don't like how I'm treated second best to Leon. You don't care about me, you only care about Leon like I don't even exist!"
