Megan had set down the plates as Leon set out drinks for the table, and everyone began to dig into their dinner. It was a calming but chatty dinner. Frank talked about the kinds of police work he and Jake did together, as Leon and Megan listened in awe.
When dinner died down, Leon volunteered to wash the dishes as the three sat on the couch. Megan gently placed her hand on his, "So how are you feeling Dad?"
Her father let out a small chuckle, "I'm doing better actually. The doctors just told me to take it easy and avoid alcohol together..." he gently held Megan's hand, "I vow to you sweetheart, that I will never... ever... retake a single sip of alcohol... I don't want to put you through that again..."
She had to hold back tears forming in her eyes. Jake noticed and pulled her in for a hug. Frank then slowly gets up from the couch, "Seems like I should be heading back to my home. Dinner was delicious Megan."
"Thanks, Frank."
Frank grabs his keys and heads to the door, "Take care now." And left. Megan wiped her tears and took a deep breath, not wanting to be a sobbing mess after her father was finally home. "So, Dad... what does this mean for you at the precinct? Are you still going to be able to go back to work?"
Jake rubs the back of his neck and lets out a small sigh, "Probably not sweetheart. After all, the accident happened while I wasn't working... but don't worry, they told me I can take a few days off to work on myself... I won't stay cooped up at home all day. But I highly doubt they'd want me back on the field after that accident... I'll most likely stay in my office to do paperwork. But it's not all bad."
Megan slowly nodded, her hands gently resting on her lap, "I... I have to ask dad... What happened? What caused that accident?"
Jake felt hesitant about asking, his eyes glancing away from her. He still didn't want to reveal the whole truth, their relationship was getting better and he was afraid to lose that if he told her. He wanted to keep that secret away from her, for now. "I was just lost in thought... that's all. Didn't have my head straight and then. Wam."
Her chest started to stiffen at his words, lost in thought. What did he mean by it? Lost in thought from work? Or was it regarding her? Her mind starts to wander even more about what he might be possibly thinking about, what made him so lost in thought that he got into a car accident. Let alone driving drunk. The only thing she could think about, was that it involved her.
Her stomach ached at the thought, was it possible it was because she didn't write him back when she was at the academy? That she made little to no effort in responding to him? Was she really that bad a daughter to do this to her own father? No... she couldn't...
With her fists clenched she looked at her father in the eyes, a stern expression on her face but her eyes had determination in them. "Dad... I swear to you... that I won't ever leave you again. Whatever problems we have, we will fix them together. No matter what. And I'll always take care of you while you're resting."
Leon was concentrating on listening to them while he was washing the dishes, he had a small hope that Megan was going to be okay with her father here. He didn't want to leave a distressed Megan behind, but he couldn't just stay with her like he didn't have a life of his own. Her vows to her father made him feel a sort of comfort, that she would be fine with him away.
But somehow, Leon felt a tiny part of him wanting to stay, not just for her sanity or clarity, but for a bit of a selfish feeling. It's up to him to decide that, but was he going to stay here and not go to Raccoon City, the police station he wanted to go and possibly have a life with Melody? He was still having second thoughts, almost like he was waiting for something to confirm that it's better to leave Raccoon City than stay with Megan.
